Cannot get the Garmin map upgrade to work with the Kenwood KNA-G610 gps unit. The GPS continually reboots when the new mad card is installed. Have already installed the software update to the unit.
I am having the same problem trying to update to the just released 2012 map update. I have talked to Garmin techs including their "dealer install" specialists. First diagnosis was faulty sd card so I bought a new one. Next I was told I had done everything they could suggest so go to a Kenwood store or ask for a refund on the sd card. I need the map update and the Kenwood store installed a brand new G610 unit which has the same problem. I am hoping this weekend to try last year's update sd along with my 2012 sd update in my G610 unit and a friend's G510 unit.. That should point to whether the problem is the 2012 sd card or the software (basic/update V 2.80) of the G610 unit itself.I am having the same problem trying to update to the just released 2012 map update. I'm quite sure you need to purchase the 2009 City Navigator SD card to update the maps. That what I did last year to get the 2008 City Navigator maps. You will need to leave the SD card in the unit to use the new maps though..
I haven't been able to determine whether it's possible to update the actual install map on the device. I'm guessing it's possible but would require a computer and an map update to write directly to the device. If I find steps to update the installed maps, I will post them here.
I have the g510 with a kenwood head unit. On the satellite screen, on the left it only shows one satellite and on the right it is showing that there are upwards of six or so satellites that it is receiving reception from. I thought it might be the antenna, so I bought a new one. Still having the same problem. It cannot find my location. I've updated the software, I don't know what to do!!
the unit requires an external speaker.. make sure the sound isnt muted in the menu either.. the external speaker is made by kenwood and should have been included with the unit.
After contacting Kenwood tech support several times, a tech finally came out and said if the unit is under warranty send it back to them and they will swap it since they do not repair it. If the Unit is out of warranty, then contact Garmin. When I contacted Garmin, the tech stated that Kenwood is pulling a fast one instead of standing behind their product. So who actually owns this product Kenwood or Garmin? Both names are on the product, but no one wants to repair it. Anyway to make a long story short there is a new update for this product 3.60 as of Feb 2008, downloaded and the unit works fine. Should resolve this issue.
I had a similar problem, and found that it was due to not having the vehicle speed sensor hooked up to the unit. Once I did that, it started to work again.
Incidentally, I assume you're talking about the Kenwood KNA-DV4100?
Also, I assume this unit has come into your hands through legitimate sources. It is NOT an accusation when I mention that electronic equipment absent of an operator manual CAN have dubious origins. Again, this is NOT an accusation. Rather, it's always good to know where such a unit came from. When an owner's manual is missing, it raises a flag - unless, of course, you know and trust the person selling it to you.
At any rate, you can simply download a manual at Kenwood's website, below. Simply copy-and-paste into your internet browser's address bar:
