I have a DCR-HC44 that cannot load a tape. the cassette compartment is in thread end position. when the cassete compartment door is put in tape eject position , the cassette compartment will open. when it is closed it remains in the unthread end position and does not load the cassette. Ive tried driving the loading motor manually to the thread end position. In this case when the cassette compartment door is opened , it unthreeds normally, but when the cassette compartment is closed it will not thread.
Please help me with a solution to this.

This is a tape transport problem and is expensive to fix. Unless you know a cheap tech, it's time for a new one. Be patient loading and unloading tapes. This is usually what causes this problem. The Yellow warning sticker is REALLY important. Another important item is to always use the same brand of tape because switching tapes causes a gummy build-up the makes tapes get caught in the machine.

I just tried the "Fonzie" fix in my ZR300 and my camera now works - cassette compartment closes all the way now with the tape inserted. It just took one "hit" to fix the prolem. I was surprised. But ericemartin's solution is worth a try.

I Had The Same Issue And Fixed It :o) I Have A Sony Handycam CCD F-730A 8mm. I put the tape in and close it but it would not load the tape down. It just pop back out. If I took the tape out, it works perfectly and would loaded the tape doc down and close.
1st: I unscrewed and removed the door to the tape. Where the tape can be seen. 2 screws hold it down. Without the tape inside. I Saw a Clear Small Plastic in the inside of the camera where the tape sits on each side. On Both Sides, Left and Right are clear plastic like sensors. They look Like Glass and are small.
2nd: I Cleaned them both with a Q-tip and rubbing alcohol. It Worked. The tape loaded and worked nicely.
It was strange. If i touched one of the small glass like sensors. the mechanism the loede the tape would not work. When The Glass sensor was blocked by the tape or just by my finger in front of it, it would not load. Very strange.

Our problem is, we have a hard time closing the tape recorder into its normal position thus we cannot used it until now.
