If the Advent notebook normally connects to the internet without problem on her network, then you need to check the following:
1. That she does not have any proxy connection setting in her web browser that you do not use on your own network.
2. Check that her wireless adapter is configured to Obtain an IP address automatically and also Obtain DNS server address automatically.
3. Check the status of the wireless adapter connection and ensure that the Advent notebook has been given a valid IP address, i.e. if your are connecting to a wireless router on your network, you should see an address something like 192.168.x.x where the x.x depend on how your router is setup. If you see a 168.x.x.x address then the notebook is not getting a valid, routable IP address and you should try to do a Repair of the network adapter connection. Repair may also be shown as Diagnose and repair depending on which version of Windows is used.

1. Take the battery out of the laptop & try to turn on the laptop using power adapter only. If the computer turns on, then the battery is defective & needs to be replaced.
2. Make sure the power adapter is not defective. Test the output voltage of the power adapter using a voltmeter. Compare the voltmeter reading to the nominal value written on the adapter or the laptop.
3. Make sure the DC jack is not loose or broken. A loose DC jack will need to be re-soldered. A broken one will need to be replaced.
4. If you have another processor which is compatible with your laptop's model, try swapping processors & test to see if the laptop will work.
5. The power button could be bad.
6. The motherboard could be defective & needs to be replaced.
