50.9 error - Fuser Failure (Abnormally High
Temperature Sub Thermistor)
1. The connector between the fuser and
the printer is not connected properly.
Reseat the fuser. Check the connector J5013
between the fuser and the printer. Replace it
if damaged.
2. Short in the sub thermistor. Turn the
printer off and remove the fuser. Measure the
resistance between the fuser connectors
J5013LA-4 (SUBTH) and J5013LA-3
(+3.3V). If it reads 600 ohms or below (at
ambient temperature), replace the fuser.
3. Faulty DC controller PCB, replace the
DC controller PCB.

I think you've some problems on the connectors, check the connections.
If you are able, replace the broken fuser roller from the old fuser with one from the new fuser.

Hey Joe,
This is what the HP Website has to say about it:

  2. Verify the fuser is properly installed and fully seated.
  3. Turn on the printer.
  4. If the message persists, contact HP Support.
BUT! you can try performing a cold reset, and maybe this would help:
500, 3550, 3700, 4600, 4650, 5500, 5550, 8500, 8550, 9500) use the instructions below. 1. Turn the printer on.
2. When the memory starts counting on the control panel, press and hold the green SELECT button. Continue to hold green SELECT button until all three Control Panel LED's are illuminated and on solid.
3. Release the green SELECT button.
4. The control panel will display SELECT LANGUAGE.
5. Press the DOWN ARROW button until control panel displays COLD RESET.
6. Press green SELECT button. The printer will perform a cold reset and then continue its power-on sequence.

Good luck!

Error 50.2 is displayed on HP 3500 screen

Try putting back the old fuser unit. If the machine works you have a defective fuser, even if it is a new one. If the machine still doesn't work you have a defecte high voltage assy. Gerrit Jan
