My computor is running slow and freezing up.

Try freeing as much memory as possible to correct the problem.

turn off any programs running in the background by checking the ICONS in the lower right side of the screen near the clock area. use your mouse and right click on any pictures shown there and choose "exit" or "close".

then run disk clean. If you are using win xp, go to start, programs, accessories and then system tools. Slide over to clean desk and click on it.

It will ask you if you want to clean "C" drive - this is fine!

Check all the boxes when the window asks which files to handle. Use the arrow key and make sure you get them all. Then click ok.

When its finished running then run disk defrag.

go to start, programs, accessories system tools and then disk defrag. you want to defrag "c" drive and click the degrag button at the bottom to start it.

this may take a while to complete. when finished, reboot the pc. Then go to windows update and run a scan to update files. Install the updates, restart one more time and this should correct the problem.

Too slow

Go to the "START" button. type msconfig then press return. It should open a grey page. If it does n't you may need to download msconfig from the web, there are plenty of copies around. I think you copy it into Windows/system32.

When you get it started click the option for selective startup.

This allows you to go through the start up section and see what is being run when you start. Just uncheck a few ata a time if you don't know what you are doing. I would sugest that you begin by leaving anything that is in the windows directory or is shown as from Microsoft.

You just reboot. (Typical Windoze) . You will probably find that you have dozens of things running that you don't need or know what they are. Lots of thing put their drivers in startup just to make them start quicker but it can be a real burden when it would only take a few seconds longer for them to start up.

My PC would typically have 2 things in startup . Usually a screen and one other.

Next go through the service tag in MSCONFIG and look what is running (sort by click on status) bet you have a whole lot of **** like UPS and UTP(win) time servers and all that junk, all taking memory and time. You can google each entry thats running to see what they are. I think you should be able to get down to about 10 services running.

Download AVG ani virus and run it if you haven't got a virus check on it already

Finally get a registry cleaner such as and run it to clean up the reigstry Free Registry Repair from www.regsofts.com
