Try running Spybot (http://www.spybot.de) and avg on it. run Spybot several times (rebooting after every attempt) untill it finds nothing. If you built the machine are you sure that the processor heat sink is correctly installed and not over heating? What is the speed of the drive?

You can google each entry thats running to see what they are. I think you should be able to get down to about 10 services running.
