I have just received a philips ppx1230 for xmas, but I cant seem to find a connector anywhere to link this up with my macbook air. could you help please, I have looked on the apple website and philips website, but cant find anything to suit. The mac seems to have a mini video out, and other than that its just usb ports. Thank you in anticipation.
Hi Kevan. What video connector is on your macbook Air? There is the Micro-DVI version OR the new ThunderBolt version. The Thunderbird version is squarer (looks a little like the USB socket on a printer) and has a little lightning flash (Thunderbolt) by its top left corner.
If you have the first one, you need this connector Apple Micro-DVI to VGA Adapter and a normal VGA cable (included oin the Philips box).
If you have a Thunderbolt connector then it would appear that you are stumped. This makes no sense as Apple sell this, projector in their stores - and it won't connect to any computer they currently sell (except the iPad).
SOURCE: macbook recognizes dell projector, but not vice versa
Hello,
Your Macbook should automaticaly find the best resolution, if everything was OK. Is there any HDMI input on the dell projector? What projector is it? Is there is an HDMI input, you can use a HDMI to mini DVI cable: better picture and sound than VGA, and will probably solve your problem

Thank you for this information, the projector is a philips pix px1230, on the side is a socket that looks like a usb port with the top two corners cut off at an angle, the lettering next to it is VGA YPbPr. The macbook air video socket has a connection the same as the one you have shown me, i have one of these and use it to connect to a monitor. the only lead that came with the device was one that had three 3.5mm jack plugs at one end and and AV jack at the other, presumably for connecting to a games machine.
maybe there is a way of connecting the cable you showed me, to one similar that then converts back to a VGA thingy that fits the projector.
Thanks again. kev
Hi Kavan. so the projector doesn't have a conventional VGA socket then.
I had a look on Amazon and found thishttp://www.amazon.co.uk/Philips-PPA1150-...
It has a conventiona; VGA plug at one end Will fit into the Apple VGA adaptor and then the wewird plug that Philips have fitted to the projector at the other.
Good luck - let's know how it goes.
Again thank you, i have just ordered this cable, it is due to arrive around the 16th Jan, I will let you know if it works.
