Sounds as though either the hook is out of time to the needle, or you have a bent needle. There are videos on Youtube that deal with sewing machine timing. Try a new needle, and make sure it is installed and seated correctly

sarah if the top tension is to tight it might slip stitches but as always when there is a problem with stitching you should change the needle and make sure it is in right.
Taking the needle plate of and cleaning with a fine brush around the bobbin and feeders will help and should be done regular.

SOURCE: skip stitch

The three most obvious causes (other than that of the machine possibly being slightly out of time) are:

1) Too small of a needle size - increase the size.

2) A needle that has a flaw / defect - change the needle.

3) Needle not inserted correctly, either not pushed all the way up into the needle bar, or not installed facing the correct place. On this machine, the small "scarf" in the needle (an indent just above the eye) shouldface the right side of the machine.

If you have put a new needle in then the chances are the machine has gone out of time, you can either take it in to the repair shop or you can contact me and I will attach timing instructions [email protected]

How to thread 4575

From the reel on top, thread goes to the left and over the back guide and then to the front, straight down through the tension disc make sure the presser foot is up so the discs are open, round the first guide and back up to the takeup lever making sure thge lever is at the top, through the takeup lever right to left, straight down towards the needle taking in any cotton guides on the way and thread the needle front to back

When I begin sewing with the necchi 4575, the thread pops out of the takeup arm.

I've had that happen, here's 2 solutions,

1. put some tape over the **** in the take up lever--just make sure the
tape doesn't touch the thread.
2. very gently use some pliers and close the gap in the take up lever you might want to cover the take up lever with some cloth while your
using the pliers to not scratch the take up lever
I use to have a necci 4575, I did the first method for a while then did
the second suggestion. worked for me just fine.
they are good machines, it was a work horse.

I have a necchi 4575 and when I sew a straight stitch it will sew just fine and then for a few stictches it wil act as if its out of thread but then it will pick uop and sew normal for a few more stiches...

Firstly, the obvious stuff, is the needle blunt? This will caused skipped stitches; a needle is good for about 4-6 sewing hours or one project so needs to be changed regularly.

However, if you have already checked that; then it is possibly a case of the timing being slightly out on the needle bar vs rotary hook rotation.

If you look at this link, you'll see images relating to hook timing

http://www.sewusa.com/Sewing_Machine_Repair/Sewing%20Machine%20Hook%20Timing.htm

It is something that can be tackled yourself if you want to have a go. But if the machine hasn't been serviced for a while, then its probably worth taking it in for a professional service and timing as the tech can check all the settings and clean and lube internally.

My cousin has a machine that straight stitches fine but skips when you zig zag. I have changed her needle, dust out underneath, made sure that it was threaded correctly, changed thread. My question is...

Yes, it sounds like you've gone through all the usual trouble shooting so timing is probably out just a bit which means that the needle and rotary hook are not getting close enough to each other during the zig zag.

Probably best getting a sewing machine technician to give it a service and reset the timing.
