Samsung Microwave oven door will not latch. There is no tension on the latch mechanism and I believe the has to do with the sping key that is listed on the diagram of the door assembly. I can buy the parts but I do not know how to dismantle the microwave door itself to get inside the door. I see no screws anywhere on the door and don't want to start prying on the thing to try and get it apart, so how do I dismantle the microwave door to access the interior parts.?

SOURCE: oven turns itself on

THE DOOR HAS A SAFETY SWITCH THAT SHUTS THE UNIT OFF WHEN THE DOOR IS OPENED KEEPING YOU FROM GETTING "ZAPPED WITH RADIATION" ACTUALLY ITS JUST RADIO WAVES, ANYWAY THE JIGGLING OF THE HANDLE TO START IT IS WHATS HAPPENING THERE. IT COMING ON IS JUST A SHORT IN THE SWITCH THAT MAY BE FROM AN ALREADY SET TIME, OR ITS JUST MAKING CONTACT WHERE ITS NOT SUPPOSED TO. ANYWAY YOU NEED A NEW DOOR SWITCH.

The 2 hooks(latch) inside the door have lost spring tension.

For no apparent reason, the latch broke on the 9187 ST. Take the door off of the microwave, which isn't too hard. Rotate the door to 90 degrees, lift up, and slide it to the left. Place the door on the counter, latch side up. Use a thin knife or screwdriver to lift the panel that covers the latch. It is very easy to remove it from the door. Then slide the latch up and lift is out. The spring is under the latch. The clip on the latch that held the spring was fractured. So, I drilled a tiny hole in the body piece from where the clip extended. I reattached the spring to the latch, replaced the panel, replaced the door, and it is as good as new.

Hi dschema,

You have a door switch issue. There are three behind the panel. If you can lift and hold the door and it starts one of them is bad for sure. You would be better off replacing all three or have a repair man replace them because a microwave can hold 3000v even unplugged.

Hope it helps.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Microwave runs when door is opened and is not programmed to run.

Sounds like a defective door switch.  DO NOT USE UNTIL FIXED!!  Or replace the unit.  Microwave ovens have door switches to prevent operation when the door is open because the microwaves are dangerous to humans outside the unit.  The door and cabinet contain the microwaves when it is operating correctly.

In order to have the correct operation of the door latch mechanism and latch switches.
  1. Ensure correct adjustment of the Door and the Latch switches.
  2. Wipe off any dirt or grease around the door key where it touches the latch switched and door hooks with a soft cloth. Maintaining the smooth movement of the latch mechanism and switches etc

Microwave door

It sounds like the mount which holds tension on your door latch heads (door hooks) is broken. You can confirm that by pushing up on the door hook. If it goes up with no real resistance, the spring is unhooked. Fixing that would require disassembly of the door (by separating the panels) and repairing or replacing either the door hook assembly or the door panel inside.
