Hi,
I have the same reciver lying with me, and this is chronic problem of this model. What has happened is if you increase the volume on unit quickly and AV IC goes bad. As a work around what i did is , instead of the AUX ports to which my speakers were connected , i connected it using the Tuner ports at the back.
The other thing you can try is that worked for me just once , after which the unit started to go into stand by is
1. Switch of the unit disconnet the speaker cable from the back
2. Make the Volume knob at zero
3. Switch on the receiver, if the unit does not go into standy by, reconnect the speakers
4. Now increase the volume slowly and check
If this fails my friend , you need to get it serviced at repair shop.
Do keep me posted , I was not able to get it repaired in India , coz tere no service tech available for this unit.

Alternatively you can also try to reset the unit
Should the operation or display seem to be abnormal,
reset the unit with the following procedure.
The SR7400 is turned on, press and hold the
SELECT and S-DIRECT buttons simultaneously
for 3 seconds or more.
Remember that the procedure will reset the
settings of the function selector, Surround mode,
delay time, TUNER PRESET etc., to their initial settings
Thanks

Try a hard reset
leave the unit unplugged for one night and then switch it ON
ok no probs
It could either be a blown power supply or a board. Perhaps a main board reset will do the trick,
but make sure you unplug the power before doing doing this. And yes please let us know.
assuming this unit is new one
if this does not solve the problem then t is best thing to call the company and ask for a refund.

SOURCE: Marantz SR7400 AV Surround Receiver
Try resoldering the main bridge rectifier on the power amp circuit board. You will have to remove the board from the heat-sink. The rectifier is mounted off the side of the board and screwed to the back of the heat-sink. Resoldering this usually cures that problem.
