This coffee maker (10 c maker with grinder) beeps it's done every few minutes with water left. we have to brew about 5 times for a full pot, what gives?

Presume this is the Grind & Brew Thermal™ 10-Cup Automatic Coffeemaker, Model # DGB-600BCC

An instruction booklet is available here: http://www.cuisinart.ca/pdf/ibs/en/DGB-600BCC_en.pdf

Review the sections beginning on page 11 of the pdf on Turning Off the Grind Function (if not using the grind feature) and Making Coffee.

Make sure you are turning off the grind function if using preground coffee and that the reservoir lid is securely closed.

Check the Cups Setting button; is sounds like the 1-4 feature may be turned on.

I Have a Cuisinart Automatic Grind & Brew Thermal that when you start brews a small amount of coffee and then shuts off. I shut off grind and start. After I do that it brews a full pot. We have cleaned...

I do love our Cuisinart pot...but find they only last 2-3 years...so my suggestions is: if the pot is still in warranty, call Cuisinart for a new one...they are great about it. If you don't know if it is still in warranty, call them, give them the number and they will tell you.

No instructions on programming auto shut-off time (feature listed on box).

You have to use the "Auto-Off" feature, which is located on the same button as on/off:
The automatic shutoff time (ASO) can be
programmed to shut off immediately after
brewing (0:00) or up to 4 hours later. The
default shutoff time is 2 hours.
Press and hold the On/Off button to display
current shutoff time. To change the preset
time, press and hold the On/Off button until
the red power light and LCD display begin to
flash. This signals that you have entered the
Set automatic shutoff mode. Set the time
you want coffee to begin brewing by
following the instructions in “Entering Time
Set Mode.”
When the coffeemaker shuts itself off, two
tones will sound.
NOTE: Automatic shutoff may be
programmed either before or during coffee
brewing. If you program the auto shutoff
time after brewing is completed the unit
will automatically account for elapsed time.
For example, if you set the auto shutoff for
40 minutes and 25 minutes have already
elapsed, the unit will shut off automatically
after 15 minutes (40 minutes minus the 25
elapsed equals 15 minutes).

How to clean the coffee maker & set warmer

In order:
1 and 2) Clean the coffeemaker by puring in 1/3 caraffe vinegar, and 2/3 caraffe water. Either use the self-clean light or brew it as if it were regular coffee - just press the on button and then press the self-clean button, and it will begin.
3)
The Automatic Shutoff Time can be programmed
anywhere from immediate shutoff
after completion of the brew cycle up to four
hours. When the coffeemaker shuts itself off,
two tones will sound. Four hours is the default
time. The 0:00 setting shuts the unit off immediately
after brewing is complete. To check the
current setting, press the “On/Off” button and
the Automatic Shutoff Time will be displayed.
To change the preset time, press and hold the
“On/Off” button until the red “power” light
begins to flash. This signals that you have
entered the “Set Automatic Shutoff” mode.
Press the “Hours” and “Minutes” buttons
to scroll forward through the digits until
desired time appears. The first setting which
appears is preset at “4:00” and the next
display will be “0:00”, since four hours is the
maximum Automatic Shutoff setting. Pressing
and holding either button will allow you to
scroll continuously, slowly at first, and then to
accelerate to the rate of about three digits per
second. As the desired time setting approaches,
release the button and then press repeatedly
to advance one digit at a time.
The Automatic Shutoff Time (ASO) may be
programmed either before or during coffee
brewing. You may also re-program the ASO
time when brewing has been completed. If you
do so, the Automatic Grind & Brew™ will automatically
account for any time that has already
elapsed after brewing. For example, if you set
the ASO for 40 minutes and 25 minutes have
already elapsed, the Grind & Brew™ will shut
off automatically after 15 minutes (40 minutes
minus the 25 elapsed equals 15 minutes).

Good luck!

Cuisinart grind and brew

This happens when the machine needs cleaned. Fill coffee maker with white vineger instead of water. Turn grind off, make sure empty pot is in place. Brew a pot of hot vineger. Repeat. Brew a pot of hot water. Repeat. This process removes mineral buildups inside machine. If you have access to filtered water, start using that to brew your coffee. I do and probably do this process 1 per 6 weeks.

Coffee maker

Clean with vinger/water first before giving up

You have not missed anything. Unplugging for longer than 16 minutes (has 15-minute memory) is the only troubleshooting you can perform. Call Cuisinart to find out if you are still in warranty. All electronics have a failure rate. Cuisinart's is acceptably low, but their coffee makers are the least reliable of all their products. The basic problem with electronic coffee makers is that coffee makers produce high heat, and high heat kills electronics and melts plastic. At least Cuisinart has a 3-year warranty - higher than the industry standard.

Let me put it another way. All coffee makers have a high failure rate. As many Cuisinart coffee makers that break down, the non-Grind-and-Brews still have a 91 rating from Consumer Reports. Consumer Reports doesn't give ANYTHING a 91 rating. A lot break, but you probably won't fare much better by switching to a different brand. The problem with a Cuisinart breaking down is that an expensive unit broke down - you wouldn't be upset if your $15 Mr. Coffee broke every year. The law of averages is on your side - a 2nd Cuisinart will probably last longer.
