Panasonic PT-53WX54 curved bottom

I have a curved picture at the bottom of my screen with double vision. When there is text at the bottom of the screen there are two and one curves up about two inches. The one that curves up appears to be green. It also appears that the bottom of the screen matches that curve. It also does it on words throughout the screen and there is a double or shawdowed picture.

As stated by mastermind10, this is a convergence problem that you can fix yourself if you can solder. If you open up the back you should see a couple of large black ICs marked STK392-110. These are the convergence ICs. Try resoldering the pins on these ICs first. If that does not resolve the problem, replace the ICs. They can be obtained on the web for about $20-$25 each.

Keep us posted.

I have a panasonic pt-53wx54 picture went black with a view vertical color lines then they went and it's now just black. sound is good no picture.. what do i need to do? thanks so much

This is one of several models that had a common problem.

If set comes on with sound and you after a minute or two see a faint odd band of noise top to bottom on the screen to the right side C509 which is a .047 cap at 200 volts is bad.

Cap is seen in attached photo(location marked and cap here gone).

The cap when you locate it from the C509 number which is on top and bottom of board may have a crack or not---it is the cause of this problem.

There is a hard way and a easy way to get at it--let me know and I will explain.

3.00 part....................

Pencil is point to location on Right side board seen from right side.

There are several brown caps here and some plugs here are removed.

I would not try operation of the set in this condition too long.

Hi, have a 50 inch rear projection Mitsubishi. The problem is that the picture is curved and some of the words around the edges are doubled. Its most noticeable when watching sports because the score board...

power transistors in the convergence circuits on this series TV go bad after several years, making the wavy lines around the edge of the screen and 'doubling' of the edges of the text in varied colors which do not converge. Professional repair is required unless you are brave enough to tackle the project yourself and follow some rather simple instructions, buy a few tools from Radio Shack, and save yourself about $500 bucks...which I did on my own 42" Panasonic rear projection set.

Picture Stretch on Panasonic PT-53WX54

Usually this is an indication of a failing capacitor in the vertical circuit. Have those been checked? I would look for 100ufd caps in the vertical circuit. Check with the tech.

No picture, just red-blue-green lines through the middle of the screen very faint.

The PT-53WX54 is a standard projection set and does not have a bulb. It has 3 separate picture tubes. If you have lost the picture completely, not even on-screen menu, then something has stopped working in your set. It could be a video processor, vertical deflection or possibly a convergence problem. The set should be serviced by a qualified tech familiar with the Panasonic projection sets.
