Hi, I have a Canon Power Shot S2 IS 5.0 megapixels that was working fine until one day I changed the memory card from 512MB to a 1GB. Now every time I turn the camera on and try to take a picture, a beeping sound and a legend on the LCD screen that reads: Memory card error. It's like something locked the shutter mechanism. I tried other memory cards with the same results. Thanks, Roger.

Its possible that there may be an error on the camera try to reset the camera by

1. Turn the mode lever to the camera or play button
2. Press and hold the MENU button for more than 5 seconds.
3, The message "reset settings to default?" appears
4. Use teh arrow buttons to selelct ok. then press the SET button.
5. It should then reset the camera.
AFter doing that and the problem is still there. Format the memory card using the camera.

I hope this has answered your question sufficiently. If you have more questions please post a reply and i would be happy to assist. Thanks.

Format 1 GB memory card

Hello Myrna,
You do not need to set the size as the camera automatically "sees" it. So when you see 970MB that is the size of the 1GB card after formatting as the formatting process uses some of the memory. So just go ahead & press OK followed by "function set".

You can download the manual from the link below:

Won't start up anymore. have several harddisks. tried to install different systems: windows, linux, freedos(dr). only with freedos was it possible to reformat hd and restart. but after a while same...

Can be lots of things, probably something I don't know. Do you think maybe one of your memory cards is loose? I have one computer that if it gets bumped slightly it shuts everything down, bad connection to the card.
I like the free program on download.com called Advanced System Care, maybe try running it.

Z3 will not accept a 2g card

The Dimage Z3 accept SD cards up to 1GB (Minolta says 512 Mb, and sold it with 16Mb). This camera is 4MP , and uses less memory on card, therefore a 512MB card will be enough for it.

New Memory Card

The problem is that the largest xD card that your camera can support is an M or H 512mb card. The 1gb or 2gb card is not compatible.
The firmware in the camera cannot support memory storage with that capacity. The camera came out before those cards did and there no plans to upgrade the camera to allow those types of cards to be supported.

Memory Card Locked

You have raised a valid point if the camera has a reading problem then it would have problems reading all cards But it read the original OK? I think this is best addressed to Canon Support it seems that there is a problem that may only be resolved by them perhaps exchanging the camera for another
