Television with no picture, no sound

Switched it on the other day and absolutely nothing happened. The red light is on, so power getting to the unit. I've unplugged it, reconnected everything, and switched on at the power point, changed batteries in the remote, but still nothing happens, regardless of whether I press buttons on the remote or the unit. Is there a quick fix to this? We're in a rural area so getting to a technician is a bit of a problem.

NEC PD Television PXT-33XD3. Sorry those details didn't seem to appear when i posted the question.

Have already checked input and AV. This is not the problem. While the red power button comes on the TV, it doesn't change to green at any time. There is no picture and no sound. I've have disconnected the DVD from the TV.

i think you are not connecting the wires correctly can you take the picture of that TV may be then i can help you

The wires have not been moved since the TV was installed two years ago! There's a power cord and an aerial, not technically difficult to connect. The problem happened suddenly and I've checked all connections, they're fine.

Which television are you using? If there is a button on a remote named "INPUT" then press the INPUT button and select AVC. I hope it will fix the problem

I think that the cause of the problem is that your power supply is already weak, try to check the main power supply but be sure to unplug your tv. try to observe if their is a leaky capacitor the one that has a wet mark in the bottom the wet mark is the oil of the capacitor try to replace it specially the 50 volts 10microfarad.

We just moved the tv into our new home, when we plugged it in and turned it on nothing happens.. no picture or sound, the timer/standby red light blinks 11 times then nothing. We have tried powering it on...

Well I think what has happened is that the move has caused a failure, it well may have been bumped or jostled, these units are VERY delicate, and should NEVER be moved without using the protective crating, they came that no-one keeps, for any transport, (It is absolutely imperative that you keep your packaging these days as it should NEVER ever be moved without putting it back into that packaging for travel) they really do NOT travel well at all. This what you describe is a classic situation, we see it all the time in my shop. You have little option but to get a "Quote" for a repair. this is indeed unfortunate, but all too common from "shifted" item. Especially TV's.

It seems that your unit has some sort of PSU fault, or a problem that is shutting down the Power Supply Unit, PSU. This happens so that no further damage, and possible fire will occur.
Remember there are leathl Voltages inside TV's, and generally these days don't contain any "User Servicable parts" like in the "Old" days, instead Board Replacment is all that is generally done.
You need to take the unit to a reputable service centre/man and ask for a firm "Quote" for the work to be done.

Red power light comes on, nothing else happens ie. no picture at all

The Power Supply Unit (PSU) of your unit is faulty as it is getting the power as indicated by the red light but it is not sending the power ahead of it self. That is why there is no sign of life other than the red light.
Open the back cover and you will find the power cord going inside. The module where the power cord connects is the PSU module. You would also find a transformer there. This needs replace ment. Remove this module and replace it with an exactly same specs one.

the red light flashing means the set is in auto shut down, could be a power supply problem or a convergence IC problem. tech should first check all diodes and caps in power supply then replace convergence IC's

have you checked the fuse inside the powersupply ? Where the power cord enter into the Power Supply.Or look for a red or black button that says reset.
