I have a GE 29870GE1A and I get the

I get the "low battery" warning but for the life of me I can't find any "opening slot" that would hold a battery. I have the original manual that shows the "battery compartment door", but the plastic moulding is solid and there is no compartment. Is there a chance that the 29870GE1A doesn't have the battery option??? There are 2 phillpis screws at the bottom of the base, but I am sure that I am not to take the entire back off to get at the battery. Sure would like some help with this. Brian

SOURCE: need to open handset for

After taking out the two screws from below the battery compartment, the case will separate slightly on the bottom. Take a screwdriver and carfully pry the case open along both sides, working from the bottom toward the top of the handset. This will free the back of the handset from the primary components. It will simply snap back together when done and then replace the two screws.

Battery warning

Just ran into this problem. New 3rd party battery with the badly translated message:

"Battery Life Time in current state is not longer.
Because you may lose your data during using, please replace to new battery.
(honest goods)

Tip> Battery Pack is Cunsumerable device.

This pack is not working correctly or life time is not longer,
please use to replace to new battery (honest goods)."

What I did was when the message pops up, hot ctrl-ald-del > start task manager > right click on it in applications and click "Go to Process" > right click on the .exe file and "open file location" > and just changed the name of the executable file by just putting a 1 on the end of the name. No more pop-ups

Who the hell uses Easy Display Manager anyway? Stupid program.

The battery/brake light can mean the brake fluid is low or the battery is not being charged by the alternator.

The only symbol on the dash that resembles an X is the low coolant warning light, if so the coolant may be low or the connector may have come loose, it's located on the holding tank on the drivers side of the radiatior.

The initial battery of my Acer Travelmate 2480 packed up and I ordered and installed a new one. However, the laptop remains on "AC Only" power and the battery is not charged, giving a...

RTFM You can download the manual by googling "acer travelmate 2480 manual" (without the quotes). Or just click here

According to the Acer manual:

"Conditioning a new battery pack
Before you use a battery pack for the first time, there is a
"conditioning" process that you should follow:
1 Insert the new battery without turning the computer on.
2 Connect the AC adapter and fully charge the battery.
3 Disconnect the AC adapter.
4 Turn on the computer and operate using battery power.
5 Fully deplete the battery until the battery-low warning appears.
6 Reconnect the AC adapter and fully charge the battery again.

Follow these steps again until the battery has been charged and
discharged three times.
Use this conditioning process for all new batteries, or if a battery hasn't
been used for a long time. If the computer is to be stored for more
than two weeks, you are advised to remove the battery pack from the
unit.

Warning: Do not expose battery packs to temperatures below 0°C
(32°F) or above 60°C (140°F). Extreme temperatures may adversely
affect the battery pack.

By following the battery conditioning process you condition your
battery to accept the maximum possible charge. Failure to follow this
procedure will prevent you from obtaining the maximum battery
charge, and will also shorten the effective lifespan of the battery.
In addition, the useful lifespan of the battery is adversely affected by
the following usage patterns:
• Using the computer on constant AC power with the battery
inserted. If you want to use constant AC power, you are advised to
remove the battery pack after it is fully charged.
• Not discharging and recharging the battery to its extremes, as
described above.
• Frequent use; the more you use the battery, the faster it will reach
the end of its effective life. A standard computer battery has a life
span of about 500 charges."
