The [FN] key is the function key for accessing special features that are pre programmed into the key board. I am not sure if they will assist you in typing portuguese as most deal with brightness, monitor selection, cd start and stop and such, at least on my key board they do. Typically the functions they provide are indicated by symbols that are boxed or circled on the normal keys.
You may have activated a shortcut key on your keyboard such as the Fn (function) key. It looks like this
Fn and usually situated on the bottom left hand side of your keyboard near the left hand cntrl button.
Some function keys when pressed once remain on. Once they are on they
can cause different symbols to appear in place of the normal keyboard
ones. If you press your Fn key again and then try typing on the
keyboard once again it may help fix your problem.
