SOURCE: Sony Handycam DCR-HC42 Mini DV Digital Camcorder

If you are able to see picture in the viewfinder (eyepiece) on closing the LCD, then the cable connecting the LCD to rest of the camera has gone bad and needs replacement. Take it to a Sony service centre. They will charge Rs 750 for service charges and about Rs 700 for the cable. You can save the service charges if you replace it yourself, but I'll advise against it unless you are conversant with these sort of precision jobs.

I want to transfer video from sony Digital Video Camera Recorder DCR/TRV25E to my Macbook Pro. The camcorder uses Mini DV and I have a USB connection between the camcorder & Mac. Please let me know...

Hi - It's pretty easy. You would use the I.Link (Sony calls it) connector which is actually fire wire. So you would need a fire wire cable (about five dollars or so) between the camera and Mac, load up the built in Imovie software and you'll be ready to go.
Here's a link to a good video tutorial demonstrating the process.

IMovie 09 / Mac OS X will not recognise Sony DCR-HC35 via firewire or USB? Do I need to download the correct driver?

mac doesn't support usb streaming so that leaves us with firewire. it should be a plug-and-play connection. no need to install any kind of driver for the camcorder (but try to check if there are any available driver updates for the firewire card).if possible try to check if your computer firewire port is working by using other devices.your imovie software should detect the camcorder once connected.if not, disconnect cam, open imovie, and connect again.if still doesnt,RESET camcorder.if still the same try restarting computer with cam connected and powered on.check if you have a dv in indicator on your screen.check if firewire cable connection is secured.try diff ilink cable if available.if still no go, try a diff computer. if everything fails might also be a service issue.hope this helps.tnx:)
