Vtech V.reader Reading System Logo

Either software or device issues? The software doesnt recognize the device!

When I downloaded the software for the vtech Vreader device we just bought my son and followed the directions to plug the reader into the USB and the computer then click 'setup' I get the error over and over "VTech Device not found. Please connect your VTech device to the computer, turn the device on and try again. I tried removing the downloaded software and re-installing. I verified the USB is in fact connected to the device and computer as it says so on the screen AND my computer recognizes the new device so... what is going on here? Is my product defective then? Help! [email protected].

SOURCE: I purchased a vtech V.Reader for my son for

I had the same problem, so I put the SDcard in my camera, formatted it, then put the SDcard back into the reader and I was able to transfer the books.

Tried the recovery software on a SD card but it did not open the software

If you made the SD recovery on your computer through a sd slot or card reader it should work. You can't make the recovery sd through your vreader. Put it in the vreader while it is turned off, power it on and the vreader should start reprogramming. Then it will tell you to shut off your vreader and restart but make sure you take the sd card back out before restarting or it will just reprogram again, lol.

My daughters v reader gets stuck on a blue screen and wont turn off.

The blue screen seems to happen when you change the batteries (it's what happened to us). The blue screen indicates that there's a software problem, like when you boot up your computer and for some reason it freezes up. That software needs to be reinstalled. You'll lose anything that was saved on the v.reader, but at least you'll get it working again.

vtech could have made it a very simple problem to solve just by adding in their customer support: Blue Screen? follow these steps. But they don't, so here's how:

You'll need an SD card with at least 64mo of free space. If you want to use the one from you camera, transfert all of your pictures first. Everything on the SD card will be erased.

Download the Recovery software from either link below (you can find both on the vtech website, but it took me a while to get there)

For the US version
http://contentcdn.vtechda.com/vtechkidsDownload/US/VReader/Tool/Recover/US-engRecoverCardTool.exe

For the Canadian english version
http://contentcdn.vtechda.com/vtechkidsDownload/CA-eng/VReader/Tool/Recover/CA-engRecoverCardTool.exe

This is the link the the website itself: http://www.vtechkids.com/download/ca/en

Run the program and follow the instructions (at least those are clear and easy to follow). Mine worked fine after that. And since there's no reset button on the v.reader, this is the only way to erase the 100+ drawings that your child saved.

To reset your v.reader (which will erase everything on it), you need an SD card with at least 64mo and follow these steps:

Download the Recovery card program:

Run the downloaded program and follow the steps. It takes a few minutes to do but the instructions are simple.

My v.reader is stuck in engineering mode how do i fix this?

You have to reset your vreader. To do this, remove all batteries and any story cartridge you may have in your device. Then hold the power button for 5-10 seconds. If this doesn't work the vreader needs to be returned :(. I hope this helps.
