Carbon monoxide is both odor- and colorless, making it very dangerous. It has no characteristic odor.

Strong gas odor only when oven is in operation?

If you're talking about the acrid smell immediately after starting the oven, that's aldehyde gas, a byproduct of cold gas combustion where the flame contacts the cold metal oven surfaces. That smell should disappear within the first minute or two, and it's entirely normal for a gas oven. If you're talking instead about the smell of fuel gas, then your burner may need to be adjusted; it may be running much too "rich".

Carbon monoxcide smell when oven running ?

I have to assume your oven is gas-fired but it helps to have make and model info.Carbon monoxide is odor- and colorless; that's why its dangerous. I don't doubt that you have poor combustion and it may well contain the gas in the fumes. Check for yellow flames which are a sure sign of an improper gas-to-air ratio. If you do, you may have a buildup of residue causing the problem.

Does an electric oven need curing before I cook in it for the first time? If so, how long and at what temperature?

you can run it at 350 for like a half hour or so and you'll smell a funny smell from the metal heating up,when i replace an ignitor or an element i run it for like 10 minutes just to burn off the smell of the metal.i'm sure the factory already had that fired up to check it but i would start it and burn anything off of it that might be in there before i cooked anything,it can't hurt it.good luck with your new machine.

I have fitted a new element to my creda fan oven but when i put the oven on it smelled of burning is this normal

You can expect it to smell for a while, as it is a protective coating on the element.
Run it at a high temp for a few minutes with the door open if possible, this should get rid of the smell.
Hope this helps.

Glass top and oven 7 months old still has the new oven smell

possible that the insulation that surrounds your oven cavity has yet to fully cure, i would run a clean mode, this will get the unit to max temp fro 3 hours, fully curing any insulaton for sure

Vapor Smell

DO NOT OPERATE THE OVEN UNTIL YOU GET SOMEONE TO CHECK IT THAT IS FAMILIAR WITH A GAS STOVE!!!

It is very possible that the oven is not burning clean and this will release carbon monixide into your home. This could be very, very dangerous.
If you have just purchased the oven, then it may need to be set up for the type of gas you are using.
If it is not new, then it may have some problem with the air intake to the burner.
It could also be something harmless such as a spill that is burning off, but if you are not sure what it is, please take the safe route and do not use the oven.
This is not a problem that can easily and safely be determined from an internet website. A competent gas repairman needs to look at it if it is burning your eyes.
I understand this answer may not qualify as a fixya rating for you, but I am more interested in your safety than my rating when it comes to a possible dangerous problem.
Please be safe.
Thanks/Mike
