A person tried to move the ink cartridges by pulling on the ribbon behind the cartridges and pulled the ribbon apart. It looked like it could be snapped back together but that won't work. Any other ideas

Lift the carriage cover. Take note of the position of the ribbon in the ribbon guide and squeeze the ribbon cartridge sides while pulling straight up. When installing the new ribbon cartridge, make sure to seat it properly with the ribbon captured in the ribbon guide. Close the carriage cover.
well, the correction ribbon is for erasing mistakes, it literally, pulls the ink off the paper, but you have to hit the correction button, the type writer will back up and pull the ink, but you would hear ait and be able to tell the diff. I think maybe you should check 1st that the ink ribbon is the 1 closest to you, and the correction ribbon is behind the ink ribbon- also make sure they are in the correct direction- ink side of the ribbon facing your paper- sticky side of the correction ribbon facing the paper- so its you, the ink ribbon and then the correction ribbon then the paper
I had this problem before, just open the cover, pull out the cartridges, it wont pull by itself, cause there is no power, so pull the wire!!!, remove the cartridges and turn the the power! it works!!!
I'm assuming these are lines going across the paper and are regularly spaced about the distance covered by one pass of the ink cartridge carrier.
The most common cause is a problem with an ink cartridge. The quickest solution is to replace the ink cartridge(s) if you have new ones on hand. Well-defined, one pixel-wide lines of a particular color are caused by a leaky ink jet (sometimes if the leak is severe they will spread out or have blotches along the line. Smeary lines are caused by lint on the bottom of the head. Blank lines, or lines missing a color, are caused by a clogged jet.
The next most effective solution is to clean the bottom of the ink cartridge by gently wiping it with a cotton swab soaked in isopropyl alcohol (available at drug stores). Unfortunately, most Epson printers will refuse to use a cartridge that has been removed and put back in the printer. You may be able to fool the printer by opening the cartridge cover, then pulling the power plug and USB cable as soon as the cartridges move to the middle for changing. Then you can remove, clean and replace the cartridges before your reconnect the cables. While you have the cartridges out, polish the electrical contacts on the cartridges and inside the printer, using a clean, soft white pencil eraser of the type typically found on mechanical pencils (especially if you are getting blank lines).
Occasionally, a blank line is caused by a bad connection between the traveling cartridge ribbon cable and the printer logic board. In this case, a new cartridge will have exactly the same problem as the old one. This can sometimes be repaired by disconnecting and cleaning the ribbon cable at the logic board if it has a removable connector with a pencil eraser. (Note - if the connector has a locking slide collar or flip-up latch you need to unlock it before pulling the ribbon; otherwise, the ribbon simply pulls out). Some printers use crimp-on fittings instead of a removable connector; the only thing you do for this is squeeze the crimps a bit tighter with pliers and hope it works. The hardest part is disassembling the printer so you can get at the other end of the cable. This can take quite some time, so you'll have to decide whether it's worth the effort.
Note: do not touch the electrical contacts in the cable or the cartridges with your fingers. Static electricity discharge from your body can damage the circuitry. Similarly, if you end up trying to clean the other end of the cable, avoid touching the circuitry on the circuit board, or the contacts on the cable if the ink cartridges are installed.
Unplug your Kodak Photo Dock's power cord. Pull the black tab on the right side of the printer down to open the ink cartridge door.
2
Push up on the green cartridge release tab in the upper center of the ink cartridge to release the old cartridge. Pull the old ink cartridge carefully from the Photo Dock.
3
Rotate the new ink cartridge's ribbon wheel on the side of the cartridge clockwise with your finger to remove any slack in the film. Do not rotate the wheel too much---this will damage the cartridge.
4
Insert the new ink cartridge into the Photo Dock with ribbon film facing down until you hear the cartridge click in place. The ink cartridge will only go in one way.
Do not touch the ribbon with your fingers. Handle the cartridge by its edges.
5
Close the ink cartridge door and plug in your Kodak Photo Dock's power cord.
jQuery('.article ol .image').each(function(i,e){
var $this = jQuery(this);
$this.find('img').error(function(){
jQuery(this).remove();
$this.remove();
});
});
Check and verify that the cartridge is installed correctly. Pull the cartridge and try shaking it gently to see if you can either feel the ink move or hear it. It is a good possibility that replacing the ink cartridge will correct the issue if nothing else works.
The ribbon cartridges can be pried apart they are pressed together, getting it apart is easier than putting back together.
Next time you have to install a ribbon advance it by hand for a foot or so as old ribbons tend to stick to themselves.
Tried what blkghost suggested above but had to tweak his advice slightly.
Turn off power to the printer and unplug it from the back of the printer.
Insert the power cord back into the printer. You will hear some clicks and motors moving. Pull out the cord again when this happens.
Open the cartridge bay by pulling the face forward and lifting the bay door up. The cartridge carousel most likely will not come to the center.
trying physically pulling the carousel to the middle. (NOT BY THE RIBBON CABLE) If you can not pull it to the middle push it far right as possible. Listen for a click.
After pushing to the right and hearing a click you should then be able to pull the carousel towards the middle easily. Remove the ink cartridges and power up the printer again.
You will receive an error along the lines of black cartridge missing. Open the bay, insert the cartridges, close the bay.
This is not an ink ribbon that is pulled apart. It is the plastic ribbon (band) that moves the printer cartridges back and forth
