Hi I recently purchased a Barracuda Pool cleaner, but for the life of me I cannot get it to work. I connect the hose to the cleaner head, sink it then prime the hose from the water outlets. Then I connect the hose to the AD flow valve then into the skimmer plate. As soon as I do this the water pressure drops, evidenced by stop and start flow from return inlets. The cleaner does not move nor **** up any debris. If I disconnect the hose from the skimmer and check the pressure with the pulse reader, it always registers 6 and over. I was told it should read between 2 and 3. The supplier even sent me out another skimmer plate that has a valve but this has not made any difference. Can anyone give me an idea as to what is wrong.?

These cleaners have a diaphragm inside that opens and closes that causes the unit to travel. If the diaphragm is bad, it will just stay still. Right above the handle there is a nut, separate the top part of the cleaner and you should see a white tube. Push that white tube downward and pull it out of the bottom of the unit. You should see the rubber diaphragm, check to see that it is free of debris and if it is distorted. The opening inside the diaphragm should look like a fairly uniform ****, not a huge gap. If it looks like there is a large opening inside, replacing it will make it run like new. Hope this helps.

If the cleaner is not pulsating then either you don't have enough suction or the diaphragm is bad or clogged. (if you have WAY WAY too much suction the diaphragm can stuck collapsed, or a hose can crimp. this will also cause it to stop pulsating.) It is very common to have a **** or tear next to or just below the plastic retaining ring that holds the diaphragm on the inner cassette tube. Also check and make sure there are no holes or breaks on the hoses. When you check the suction with the pool pulse, make sure suction not too high or too low. If the suction is too high it will usually pulse very very rapidly, but sometimes the diaphragm can get stuck as mentioned above. If you have proper suction, and the diaphragm is fine then it will pulse. the only other possible problem is the the cassette assembly could be damaged, or cracked. Hope this helps. If you need further assistance post a reply in the comments, and don't hesitate to leave good thumb rating if you found this helpful. Thanks, and good Luck!

With these pool cleaners, there are several things that it could be. Check the return line water flow and redirect as necessary with an eyeball diverter. Make sure the automatic regulator valve is installed properly and is not clogged. Make sure the cleaner has proper hose balance.

I found 2 problems. One was a split in one of the hoses near where it joins to next hose. I discarded this hose and thought this has been the problem - Wrong! Then I examined the cleaner head and found that the diaphragm was not in correctly. Another problem solved! Connected it all up for the millionth time expecting it to work, however the pressure keeps rising and falling. Can see it in the weir basket.
There seems to be air in the hoses as I see bubbles coming out of the return inlets. I fill the hose by placing it over the return inlet. This is the same way that I do to manually vacuum the pool. Why is something that seems so basic giving me such a headache?
