Try to connect the usb HDD in windows with safe mode(by pressing F8 while booting ) and try to check the HDD system disk by windows tool, this might solve some errors. and restart ur device & can work normally then, if windows found errors on ur harddisk & fixed them. good luck

be sure power is supplied to the HDD, if and inter HDD change the cables, if is external check the USB cable and see if you need a complementary power brick or a second USB to power it.
hi there,
how old is your hdd? it could be that your hdd did not come with support for windows 7. if that is the case, you will need to log onto the seagate website and download the latest software/driver for your hdd. hope this helps :)
HOPE THIS PROBLEM IS autorun.inf virus PROBLEM There is a much simple way to remove the Autorun.inf file. Genreally when you refresh the windows explorer view a bounded virus process recreates this file. This file is attached to many events of windows explorer including OPEN, REFRESH, etc. Simple stept to remove the virus activation: You must close opened explorer windows.
1. open up a command prompt (i.e. cmd.exe) >> to load it go to Run, type cmd, enter. 2. Now to remove virus's attributes (in order to delete it type following line by line and execute them pressing enter. e.g. F:\ F:\attrib -s -r -h *.* If there are any malicious EXE files those are now visible so if unnecessary delete them too. F:\del autorun.inf
3. After finishing above, quickly remove the pen as soon as posible (just after executing del command). 4. Now your pen is without virus activation config. file. Now you can safely delete unnecessary EXE files on it. IF YOUR PROBLEM NOT SOLVE PLEASE KNOW ME

Solving your problem is just as easy as 2 hour work. not more..
By the time you were having the restarting problems.. all you had to do was to boot from usb cd-rom using Hirenes boot cd 10.
It starts a small intergrated windows. then you would have to go to a menu to stop some un-named startup bugs that cause the restart when Explorer.exe is being executed by windows.
so now, if you have your backups safe, get instruction on the internet on how to make a bootable usb windows vista or 7 Setup. windows seven comes with many drivers for new laptops.
Boot your computer from USB flash disk, run the windows 7 setup and enjoy..
hope this information helps you because it helped me with Acer One netbook..
even tho you have AV software installed , I wouldn't write it off so easily. Download and run Malwarebytes from www.malwarebytes.org and you may be surprised how ineffective AV software can be some times.
1. START> RUN > type CMD > now paste the following reg add “HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon” /v Shell /t REG_SZ /d Explorer.exe
this procedure is to remove the error that comes whenever you restart windows
something like “could not find SSVICHOSST” or “error loading SSVICHOSST” or “windows cannot find ssvichost”
