When I switched my media settings to record on my memory card it seemed fine until i went to check the videos the videos hadn't transferred to my memory card so i figured it was just on the camcorders memory so i popped the memory card out to find out my media files had been deleted without my permission. Is it possible that I can recover my deleted files?
Take no more videos until you've recovered the missing ones, take the card out of the camera. This is to reduce the chance of you overwriting some of your "lost" videos. There are many good freeware recovery software options that may help you recover them. This article reviews and outlines several of the better ones:
and here's a YouTube video clip of your freeware options:

Don't give up on those files, the software I use has found files on the camera that I thought were deleted and it did discover them. And that was unintentional...
Adobe Premiere 4 is the program I use to edit my video and was the one that found the files...
Hope that helps!

In this case you may need video recovery software, here are some programs you may rely on. Both programs can also recover photo and music files.
Connect your camcorder (memory card or hard disk) to your computer with such recovery program installed, and then start to recover. Take the trial version first,
Video Recovery Software (for Windows)
Mac Video Recovery Software (for Mac OS X)
A Tip: Before your videos are recovered, do not attempt to save more files to the memory card or stick in case the original files(your videos) are overwritten.

SOURCE: Can you Recover a deleted video off the camcorder?
The answer is YES. Do it as follows.
---------------------------------------------------------
First things first: DO NOT take any more videos with the memory card or hard disk (on your camcorder) that you want to recover videos from. Take the memory card or disk out of your cam and put it in a safe place. Because if you take any more videos or save any data to your memory card or hard disk, you may quite possibly ruin your chances of video recovery.
Then Connect the card or disk to your computer as it should appear as a "Removable Drive" or put the card in a card reader attached to your PC.
Next, if you are comfortable with using a PC then you can download a data recovery utility that will recover your videos with Wondershare Recovery Software (I once used this program bounded with some other software) from the following link:
Video Photo Recovery (if you are running Windows OS)
Mac Data Recovery (from MacUpdate site)
Remember - Do NOT try & write anything back to your camcoder(card or disk) until you can recover your videos safely!
