Even though you do not have the CD you can still download the drivers for your printer....the drivers are the software that allows your printer and your computer to communicate....

You can download the drivers for your model here:
http://printers.free-driver-download.com/Lexmark/31850/Lexmark-X4250-X4270-All-In-One-Driver-v1.0.3.6-Windows-2000-XP-Server-2003.html

You can also download the drivers from the Lexmark website , but for some reason they seem to be down at the moment! Either way that download should work for you...

Can you print with only the black cartridge in the printer?
Sorry, but Lexmark does a check on the color cartridges before printing. Even if you are only printing in B/W, the printer will refuse to work without color cartridges installed and full of ink.

Sometimes, it take awhile for the ink to reach completely into the printhead.
Perform a printhead cleaning cycle should correct the problem.

I don't have disk with me to connect X4250 printer
Go on the Lexmark web site. All printer companies that I know of allow you to download up to date installation software for their printers in the support or support/update areas. It will probably be a very large file so you need a fast internet connection.

Hey,
The lexmark drivers and software required for installing the printer is available at www.lexmark.com
Select Drivers & downloads - driver finder
Type in your model x2350 for example
Select your OS version from the drop down list
Download the setup program. 
1.Download software 2.Run the downloaded setup 3.Plugin the printer when asked 4.Done
