Dell Inspirion 1000 power short circuit

Dell Inspirion 1000-loses power completely and shuts down when moving the screen slightly after the computer is running. Has to be restarted. The power light stays on, but there is no power to the computer itself.

This a Dell Inspirion 1000 running XP. Unfortunately your fix did not work. I have seen posts on this same problem on the Dell users forum. It appears to be a cable problem from the board to the screen; why that would keep the computer from starting up, not sure, but that seems to be the cause.

  • Shut down the computer.

  • Remove any CDs, DVDs or external storage devices (like USB keys or external hard drives) from the computer, if any are present, then press the power button to turn the computer on.

Where do I turn off my laptop

Power button is top left corner of keyboard above the "Esc" key.
If you are trying to shutdown from Windows 8, follow these steps:

1. Mouse over the little gadget in the lower right corner of the screen. (You can also move your mouse cursor to the upper left corner; same result. Or, you can press Windows-C on your keyboard.)
2. In the slide-out menu (known as the Charms Bar) that appears, click Settings.
3. Click the Power button, and then click your desired action: Sleep, Shut down, or Update and restart.

My 2011 corolla hesitate's while driving. The problem usually occurs when I'm driving 40mph and only last for a short period of time, but constant. It never shuts off but loses power as if I

Sounds like a throttle position sensor. It is a variable resistor that moves with the, "gas" pedal. What happens is it wears out in the position it spends the most time, say 40 mph. Then it can't properly report the position of the pedal to the car's computer, it looses connection, and the computer thinks you just let off the pedal completely, and the engine goes to idle. A slight movement of the pedal goes to a less worn spot, and the fuel flow comes back to the engine.

Dell inspirion 1000 laptop computer will not allow me to work in safe mode keeps shutting down after booting up

Hi,

It seems there is a heat related issue on your laptop. I would suggest to run first the diagnostic test, to check for hardware problem.

Try removing any external devices first (Ex. USB devices) then run some diagnostic test:

1. Turn on computer
2. Tap F12 continuously on the Dell logo screen
3. Select Diagnostics
4. Follow on screen instructions
4. Wait for the test results (approximately 10-15min.)

If all test passed no problems have been found, it means there is no problem with hardware/computer. The problem is now pointing out to be software problem. Re-installing windows will fix the problem. Hope this helps

I would suggest testing your laptop with another adapter, first. Then you'll know whether to replace the adapter, which is priced around $50.
