many thanks both, it's not the power cord as we checked. I think is more likely to be the actuator as it works when we push it in with a cocktail stick but not when the bowl is locked into place so I understand the pin has warn down from over use. Do you kinow where could i get a vinal screw?

Does the actuator push down far enough to catch the button at the bottom? I repaired one simply by adding a vinyl screw cover to the top of the button so it was tall enough to be reached by the actuator.

You can get the vinyl screw covers at most hardware stores that have the array of small drawers, Jandorf is one of the vendors, there are others, but it is essentially something you would normally put on an exposed screw shank to keep it from scratching people who might rub up against it.

If you remember those small sheet metal yard barns- they usually packed dozens of them with each yard barn.

Check the small spring inside the handle. Mine was sticking. After applying a drop of oil, the machine finally worked!

The fault can be with the power cord, the switch the motor brushes or the motor winding.
You need to open and check from the power cord , the continuity to the switch and to the motor. There is a safety switch in case the lid is not fixed into correctly as this will not run the motor. Also check for any rest switch in case of a power issue or overload which can trip the motor.
Your question did not mention any observation in detail.

SOURCE: my kitchenaid processor is not working

The Kitchenaid food processors have a few safety features implimented. If the unit is not assembled properly, this may prevent the unit from turning on. I am thinking this is an issue of assembly because the light is on, so the unit is definitely getting power.

Proper assembly is below:

If it isn't all ready, please disassemble the entire unit. This means removing the blade and/or disc, blade, removing work bowl, work bowl lid, and blade.

Start by placing the work bowl onto the motor base. The work bowl handle should be facing at 9 o'clock, which is out to your left. Rotate the handle downward until it locks in at the 6 o'clock position, which will lock over the center of the button panel.

Repeat the process with the work bowl lid. The blade does not need to be present for the motor to engage, if this is an assembly issue.

SOURCE: Need to clean inside of handle on KitchenAid food processor

The plastic for the work bowl / handle is molded and one piece and cannot be disassembled. My best recommendation is to call Kitchenaid customer service to see what recommendations they have. Within one year warranty, they may replace the work bowl at no cost.

Their toll-free number is: 1-800-541-6390.

Kitchenaid food processor KFP1642MS This model requires the bowl, lid and plunger to be installed before it works. With all items installed this processor has been intermittent and getting worse.

The solution is 90% going to be replace the lid, or replace the bowl or if you are very unlucky replace both. A proper KitchenAid service agent should have both parts on the shelf and will be able to try a new one of either to see where the fault lies. I think over the years I've replaced more lids than I have bowls.

KFP0711 Kitchenaid food processor won’t turn on even when put together. Just opened and never been used.

Read the handbook and make certain you are assembling the bowl, lid and pusher correctly, they can all play a part in activating the safety mechanisms that put the appliance in the mode that will allow it to be started.

Probably the mechanisms in either the bowl or the parts of the lid that engage the bowl mechanisms.
