Maybe a bad cable, try and replace that. Possible a pin in the connector shorted or broke

SOURCE: Cannot power on the monitor

If this is the power section you are testing it is important that the switch mode frequency is present from the SM drive IC. If not the SMPS will not work. The diode will test only in one direction and if there is no leak it must be OK.Please check this link for tips. http://www.fixya.com/support/r5826301-working_switch_mode_power_supplies

My Dell E153FPc 15" shuts

Look for cold solder joints, shorted transistors, bad fuse, bad caps.
See pictures here: http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/Dell%20E153FPB/

Replacement board: http://www.lcdrepair.us
If you are going to DIY and already try the monitor with another PC, and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on:
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply (they should be replaced in a set), blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed DELL monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

My sreen is dark on my dell E153FPc when i cut it on i can see but it goes dark after like 2 seconds is it the contrast

Not hte setting problem, but more likely to be problem in the power supply /inverter circuits due to bad caps, shorted transistors, cold solder joints.

Is there a way to open the monitor case to fix the backlight without using a hammer and chisel . . ? Dell Model #E153FPc

Yes the screens are held together by screws and clips. you need an electronics plastic opening tool to not damage them but they are repairable without having the damage them.

Dell E153FPc switches off (black Screen) after a few minutes. If you switch it off & back on again it will stay on for a few minutes, then go off again.

You could have an inverter board problem. The inverter supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp which provides the back-lighting.

Computer monitor

I have never tried that but I would say it won't work that way. I have 2 display cards (3 outputs each, VGA, DVI, TVout) and 3 monitors. When I check the driver software and multiple screen function, it shows only 2 output (VGA and DVI) each. I cannot set TV output as a second screen. Even display properties on windows, it shows only available monitor output. I don't think you can do that.
Thank you,
Tan
