I have tried various ways to connect the wp38 directly to a sony kdl-46ex710 model hdtv (cable hook-up) and continue to get a "rear chk" message right after the "loading message". I have used connections/cables suggested in the user guide - digital coax, rca, etc, everything except optical to no avail. HELP!

If your solely using cable as your main set of channels. Connect the digital audio out from your cable box to the digital audio input on your reciever. Then when broadcast permit you will gey Dolby Digital sound for your TV channels
SOURCE: best way to connect new system
After trying several ways, we decided the best picture was to run the blue ray (out) directly to the TV (in) with an HDMI and another HDMI from the sat. box(out) to TV(in), then optical audio from TV (out) to receiver (in). This way you don't have to change channels on the reciever when switching from TV to DVD. Remember that HDMI is one cable that supports audio and video. If you are using all Samsung products and want to use one remote, using the Anynet feature, I think it has to be connected with an HDMI. I'm going to try connecting an HDMI too from the reciever to the TV to see if this feature will work. It does with the Blue Ray.
On the remote control for the Samsung Home Theater System look at the bottom left to a button that says "MODE", those moods change the sound each speaker gives off. if that doesn't work, you might need new wiring because there are other wires that are more durable than the ones that come with it, much better too.

You have to press the AUX button and set the HTS unit to D. IN (DIGITAL IN)
AUX 2 only works for the regular red & white audio cables.
Hope this helps!
SOURCE: no sound is produced when using digital optical
What are you connecting to what? It soundslike we have an unnamed external device in the mix here. Start there.
