How do I check if it's my Powakaddy battery or the charger is faulty as the battery on lasted 8 holes and the charger green light was on when fully charged
Batteries have a limited life and depending how old they are and what sort of life they have had depends on the likelihood of whether the battery or batteries are faulty or have a reduced capacity.
Being left discharged or semi-discharged for more than a few days, or a few weeks, operating in a hot climate, overheating during charging or being subjected to inappropriate loads are a few of the things that shorten the life of a battery or reduce it's capacity. A quality traction battery is good for around 500 charge/discharge cycles if it is operated in ideal conditions. Employing a short top-up charge whenever convenient can extend that number many times.
Considering what I have said it could be a good idea to replace the battery considering you need a fair level of reliability - there aren't many short cuts on the golf course.
Testing a battery properly is quite a long process even though there are hi-tech testers that claim to carry out in an instant what used to take a couple of weeks. Testing a wet battery is easier than testing a gel battery.
A digital voltmeter can provide a rule-of-thumb sort of test. Leaving the freshly charged battery to stand for several hours to disperse any surface charge the terminal voltage is then measured. A healthy fully-charged battery has 2.2 volts per cell. That is 13.2 volts for a 12 volt battery. A 12 volt battery that registers 12 volts is only half charged (or faulty) and of a limited practical use.
Less than 12.7 volts and the freshly charged battery needs replacing unless it is used for very light loads. 12.7 volts and above offers varying degrees of serviceability but less than 12.9 volts and the battery is past its prime.
Testing the charger thoroughly can also take some time and expertise but if the battery doesn't become any warmer than a baby's bathwater during charging and the terminal voltage of the battery while the charger is connected doesn't rise above the specifications for the charger, typically around 15 volts depending on charger type, the charger would seem to be doing the job.
