E:31:00 Camera just stopped working, can't access the hard drive. Lists error code E:31:00 and says "Format error. Please format". When I try to reformat, it tries to format and then says "Drive error. Turn on power again." I have tried both to resolve but continue to get same messages. i have sony handycam DCR-SR300 and i am facing the same problem. Anybody got any cue?

same error message (dcr sr42). and 18 months of movies of 2 babies under the age of 3 are trapped inside. yikes! sony media services can't do anything until the e 31:00 is gone; sony repair services say they can fix it, but will destroy the hard drive (and my precious movies of my babies) in the process. rumor has it the hard drive may be physically removed and data recovered, but i haven't found anyone to do it.

For those who are facing HDD problems and have any Sony camera with memory stick slot , try this:

1- Place the memory stick

2- Go to "Home" -> "Manage Media" (or something like that) -> And select the option to change to the memory stick, instead of HD.

3- Go to "Manage Media" again, then to "Format Media", so choose to format the HDD! - Now that you are running the camera from memory stick, you'll not have any problem to format the HD.

At least worked with me! I think it worths the try!

I had the same issue. I removed the hard drive and pulled the ribbon from the hard drive (by accident). Once I finally got the ribbon back into the hard drive, I was then able to reformat the hard drive. this allowed me to videa and successfully upload the video to my laptop. However, once disconnecting the camera from laptop, I recieved the HDD formatting error again. this is my first and last time buying Sony.

Windows explorer has stopped working.....

Windows Explorer is part of the Windows Operating System. If you reformatted C: drive then your PC has operating system in it. You need to re-install windows back into the C: drive as the Destination Drive. Should be fine after that. In a pinch, if your PC has really failed completely. Then, buy a Hard Drive adapter cable set which will allow you read your drive once you remove it using another computer. You can then copy the files somewhere else to save them or move them.

Sounds like there was an error while the camera was writing information to the card. You can try reformatting the card using a computer and a card reader, then replace it in the camera and format it from the menu. If that doesn't work and the camera is locked up you can try to do a "hard reset" by following the instructions on page 176 of the camera manual.

Hi.. i have a problem with my 8gb fkingston flash drive..every time i try to edit it this message will come out 'All NTFS BOOTH SECTORS ARE UNWRITEABLE CANNOT CONTINIUE' please help..

Reformat the flash drive then do a scandisk of this so that windows can check for any errors and correct them if possible. You can pretty much expect to loose all files in this drive once you reformat the flash drive. you can reformat the flash drive by right clicking the drive > choose FORMAT > then make sure to use just the FAT32 file system for now then format. Good Luck.

For the MAC to see a PC formatted hard drive, format the hard drive using the PC but format the hard drive in FAT32 not NTFS.
You will then able to transfer files between the PC and the MAC.
The MAC will copy file to the hard drive in PC file format.

A memory error is not caused by the hard drive not being wiped, However to wipe this drive formatting it using this command wipes it unconditionally (format C: /s /u)
This will format it at a lower level if you get a memory error check the memmory modules run a program called Pc doctor or amidiag these programs can be found on the internet by using google.com. Boot hang after formatting of hard drive

no there isnt, you need to take it and put it in another computer as a slave drive. But you might have damaged your hard drive, you can try Hiren's boot cd from here www.phazeddl.com but personally i think you might have messd up the drive.

to install as a slave
1.) find a working computer
2.) put hd in as slave (do not remove old hd)
3.) boot
4.) it will show up in my computer
5.) format and unmount drive

it the computer fails to boot ensure you got the drive connected propperly and jumpers are correct

it thats all good then your drive is damaged
