What does d 72 mean on nikon d500 screen. I can see this symbol when I depress the AF button . Also cannot change from AF - c to Af-s

All your questions are in regard to AUTO FOCUS MODE which is described very nicely in the manual. For d 72 that is Dynamic 72 point focus. That is on page 106 of your manual. The AF-C and AF-S are the focus areas. AF-S is single focus for stationary objects. AF-C is continuous where what you are shooting is moving. This is described on page 101 in your manual.

Which is better to get - manual focus or AF extention tubes for Nikon D3100

AF tubes will let you focus manually, so you don't lose anything by getting AF tubes (except for additional money, perhaps). However, most close-up work requires manual focus anyway due it the very limited depth of field, so you won't gain much by getting AF tubes.

Personally, I've never missed the AF capability when using my manual tubes with my Nikons.

Manual focus points 40D

Try checking C.Fn III, 3: AF point selection method. Yours might still be on option 2.

0: Normal - Works by pressing the AF Point button and then the Multi-controller.

1: Multi-controller direct - Press the multi-controller to directly select an AF point (without first having to press the AF Point button). Pressing the AF button reinstates all AF points for auto AF point selection.

2: Quick Control Dial direct - turn the Quick Control Dial to select AF points. In this mode, AF points will not be displayed on the LCD panel.

What kind of focus settings does the DiMAGE Z3 have during movie recording?

The following three settings are selectable during the movie recording: Continuous AF: The single-shot AF is operated in advance of recording, and AF is always operated during recording. Single AF: The single-shot AF is operated in advance of recording, and the focus position is fixed during recording.*This mode is useful for shooting a low contrast and hard-to-be-focused subject, such as fireworks. Manual: The focus point is to be set manually in advance of recording, and its position is fixed during recording.*Manual focus is useful when it is difficult to focus automatically.

Problem with AF-360FGZ Flash

Yes. The *istD shutter can only provide X-sync for electronic flash up to 1/150 sec. The *istDS reaches 1/180 sec. "High speed" electronic flash is done by strobing the flash repeatedly during the period that the shutter slit is traveling across the focal plane, at th expense of cutting power output quite a bit.

Focus modes

There are four focus modes: S-AF (Single auto focus), C-AF (Continuous auto focus), MF (Manual Focus), and S-AF/MF (Simultaneous mode). (SINGLE Auto Focus): Focusing is performed once when the shutter button is pressed halfway. C-AF (CONTINUOUS Auto Focus): The camera repeats focusing while the shutter button is pressed halfway. (MANUAL FOCUS): The function allows you to manually focus on any subject while looking through the viewfinder. SIMULTANEOUS USE of S-AF mode and MF mode: You can fine-adjust focus manually by turning the focus ring after AF is performed in the S-AF mode.
