Sony VGC LT16E VAIO live tv tuner hardware cannot be found

I have a Sony VGC LT16E VAIO, which I reformatted to get rid of malware, but now when I try to use the live tv function on the computer, it says that no tuner hardware can be found. What should I do?

Go to "Device Manager" and look for anything that has a yellow question mark. If you see this, you need to run the set up program for that device to install the driver/.inf file and let the setup program set other parameters.

Since you reformatted, you removed all your previous settings unless you backed those up previously. If it came with the laptop from the store, it should have come with a CD or DVD rom with the install program.

If you lost that, or cannot find it, go to the Sony website, select "support" and locate that driver or set up program and download it. Make an archive copy of it in case it is needed in the future. The device manager should identify what model of tuner card you have.

Then you need to take the vendor and model information off the card itself. Either it was not fully compliant with Microsoft desires for standard driver support, or is newer than your latest OS update, or old enough to have rolled off the cutting edge.

I find that often is the case with older track balls and pointing devices (my skin is usually too dry for the finger contol pad to register it right.) and network cards.

If the card is of a different vendor than Sony, go to that vendor's website ; often listed on the card or a tag on the card and get the install program. Most companies are good about archiving old software, even when bought out by another,

If you have to resort to a web search, put the information inside of quotes to narrow the search parameters to that specific item "Vendor name model number" You may end up with Driver guide dot com on your results, they have been around a long time, and have most of the older drivers for most of the operating systems. If one is not there, jsut post a specific request and it usually takes little time.

Once you have run that vendor's installation program, you should only need to reload your preferences.

Can I connect an external monitor to a Sony Vaio VGC LT16E?

The short answer is yes. The long answer follows:
The computer does not come with a VGA port to put an external monitor on it. With that said there are USB to VGA adapters out there that will allow for this function. The URL is a google search for the said adapter.

Tv tuner will ot detect digital signal in windows media center, vista

All US TV signals are now digital, but most TV tuners are like our old TVs - analog. Are you sure your tuner is a DTV tuner? If not, you will need to replace it or get a DTV converter. A DTV converter will not let your computer pick the channel and time though.

But one footnote. Broadcast digital TV is often not the same a cable digital TV. If you get a cable digital signal it is encrypted to the actual serial number of the receiving box. No broadcast DTV converter can do this. This is how the cable company now controls the number of receivers and one has to pay for EVERY set.

I have lost all my freeview channels on my Sony Vaio VGC-VA1,I have tried numerous times to re scan the channels but with no luck, this happened this week end

After the recent retune that all Freeview customers had to do (which failed miserably) this can happen on TV tuners on your pc's aswell.

Try uninstalling the product, and reinstalling, then rescanning. There is a chance this could work.
