Yes, I have exactly the same problem. I have already replaced the disk by a new one, but the error is still there.
I think it must be a software problem!.

Its not a disc or a software problem. Its your hard drive. for some reason I bought the 120 gig harddrive when i was having the same problem and it fixed it. i was getting that unreadable message so i went from 20 gig to 120 gig and it works fine now. I even tried replacing the disc and it did the same thing. try getting a bigger hard drive and see what happens.

I would recommend going back to the shop you got the game from and asking for a new copy, it seems more likely to be a disc problem than a console one, and just check that it is the correct format for your region.
it sounds to me like the game wont merge to the system have u tried nhl 10 lol... anyways your hardware might be corrupted if u delete the nhl 09 files and try again i dont think youll have a problem, that said if its online there might be another problem
Check the back of the disc for any kind of circular scratches, because moving the xbox while a disc is in it is commonly known to scratch up discs, even if they are new. Try putting in the disc, then go to Game Library, and click on the game (NHL 10), then hit Install to Hard Drive, this may fix the problem, if this doesn't work, go to your local game store, and see if they can buff out the scratches.
DVD-ROM either motor seized or lazer died or the magnet has come out of the dog
you need someone to help you to replace it
each rom has an unique code matched to each xbox
I know the xbox screws up alot with Nhl, best thing to do is delete any Unused Dynasty profiles, As they sometimes interfere with the Loading of the other rosters :)
go to a store which can repair disks then it shall work after because they try it on there consol before giving it back to you to see if it will or will not work
Hello there, if you have ever put anything inside your console besides an official game, this will cause some makes of optical drives that ship with the 360 act a little funny. I can only suggest putting in an xbox1 game (preferably one that works), letting it come to whatever resolution it will come to(the console) then trying the hockey game again, repeat this process with different types of disc to see if you can get the optical drive to get back into the mode for that particular game. A lot more is going on than that but that's the short of it.
