You were helping me with my receiver(sony str-de605) last june and i have some other questions if you dont mind.

I now have the receiver back in my hands so now i can answer any questions you give back. The (R) channel for the front, both A & B ,are now completely out with just little pops or cracks every once and awhile. Can we go over again some ideals of what it could be?

I have an HD PVR (Explorer 8300) and have connected to my Samsung TV using HDMI cable. My question is can I connect my SONY STR DE605 receiver or do I need a new one?

Depending on your tv output, you shpuld be able to hook your TV to receiver via audio output. Running your video components through your receiver will not give you the best performance anyway. Run your HD DVR to TV the way you have it then, if it's possible to run audio out from TV, via, RCA, digital optical, etc., to your receiver. The sound will be transfered through the TV. You may also be able to utilize component out from your HD DVR and a separate audio cable.

Suddenly, for the first time in all the years I've had this Sony receiver, a messege pops up on the front of the receiver saying "protector". What is this??? I have NO idea and don't know what to do. ...

Internal problem probably needs output transistors and a dual emmiter resistor (could a couple other parts too). Parts and labor should be about $100 to $125.

All i did was turn the volume down and protect came up on the screen now no sound at all

If protect is still there you need to follow you manual, and check your speakers. Protect is there so you dont blow out you speakers.

No sond from speakers but with headphone jack

there is no problem with the amplifier audio, check some resistors or disconections near the spkr terminals.
