Buy a DVD cleaning kit follow the instructions, sometimes brings it back to life. If no change! the assembly will need to be replaced,"not cost effective" cheaper to replace.

the problem is your heads are dirty you can still buy vcr head cleaning tapes from some electronics retail outlets or you can have the heads pro cleaned at your nearest electronics repair shop
if you want to clean the heads your self send me back reply and ill draw you up a detailed instruction draft.

this is a mecanical problem, is some gears is broken.
Pease send to repair shop, to check

Your Lense has some issue.
You can clean your lense with disk cleaner disk.
Pur chase it from nearest shop it is called "Lense cleaner disk"
then put it into combo drive then play it then it clean your lense then check .
If still not access your dvd then if it is in warrenty go to service shop they replaced it.
And if it is not in warrenty then you should need to repair your lense or purchase new lense.

Hello billandanita. Have attempted a disk player cleaning? If not purchase a disk cleaning pack from a local electronics supply/repair store. Asking a local repair shop will get you the best cleaner available. Good Luck.

Hi - I can record a dvd from the tv and can play it back but when I try to play a store purchased dvd it ejects the dvd and on the tv screen it says unknown disk, please, check disk again.

to trully remedy this problem the dvd player laser lens and drive assy have to be maually cleaned.

the TOP COVER HAS TO BE TAKEN OFF AND THE LASER LENS HAS TO BE CLEANED USING COPRESSED CANNED AIR ALSO THE DRIVE HUB MUST BECLEANED take to electronic shop or tv repair shop TO HAVE THIS DONE CORRECTLY .

I have same problem, and i keep getting the same info...to use a good quality cleaning disk...i am going to invest in another one £17 i will let you know how i get on...
