My sony vx1000 wont zoom and only 1 mm focus distance

The edge-to-edge sharpness of your lens is a function of the optical design much more than f-stop. What I would be more concerned with is depth of field. The important consideration is what the closest and farthest point you want to be in focus. Here are some figures that might help. For a 300mm lens focused at 200 yards (600 feet), mathematical calculations yield the following (0.03 mm circle of confusion in all cases):

Most camera's can't focus when the aperture number is above 5,6. Although your tele zoom starts at 4,8, it reaches the 5,6 at about 150 mm. So from there and up it can't auto focus. You still should be able to focus manually, but for wild life or sports pictures, it is useless.

The lens block is faulty

my cam z sony DSC HX1..the problem z when i zoom in(max) the objct i m zoomin doesnt get focusd....when i shoot it the pic z totally blurrd....no matter how mch i try 2 focus with the manual focus option the outcum z da same....

Seems as if you're snapping the shutter before the lens has focused. Have you tried manual focus or single-server auto focus?

do you really need to use tohe zoom function when in macro mode? remember the lens has it limit on distance of the taken subject. Try to experiment without using the zoom and doing some distance adjustments

I will try to help you, but please understand that my experience is with Nikon film cameras. Assuming that the D60 works in a manner similar to a Nikon 35 mm body and that Sigma macro lens work like Nikon macro lens, you should be able to determine the usable subject to lens distance by experimentation. First, make sure the lens is in the macro mode. To do this you must set the auto-focus mode control to the manual focus mode (see your manual). On Nikon lenses, you must first set the focus ring to infinity, then move slider switch, which has two positions marked; "normal" and "macro., to the macro position. You should now be able to rotate the focus ring to the macro range. Use the zoom ring to zoom in and out and focus with the focus ring. The the range over which the lens to subject to lens distance will yield an in focus image will be rather limited and in the range of an inch or so to 6 or 8 inches.

It will not focus on anything closer than 5 feet.

HI, are you sure that there is no conversion lens setting activated in the setup menu? It sounds like that to me. These modes limit the ranges. I hope it will help, otherwise you will have to bring it back.
