Hello
The power supply regulatior board of your tv has the fault. It is a repairable fault. If you come over to me by buying one among my Sony services published on Fixya or Google, I can give you steps to repair this fault, along with its repair manual. I've its full repair manual, which describes all details to repair, having so many illustrations shows from open the set to shut it after repair. So many photographs about the internal fittings and wiring, tips to repair etc: are well described in it, as a person who have a basic knoledge in elelctronics can do the work successfully. Moreover, I too can give you instrictions to repair. No part of the repair manual can be uploaded by this window, as it does not allow me to do so. OK.

The image on the TV has sort of condensed and disappeared. Now there is a bright line across the middle of the screen and a sliver of (about an inch) of image above that line. The rest of the screen is...

You have a vertical output IC that needs repaired. You may need to only resolder the vertical output IC. If then you do resolder, you will need to check and replace any capacitor in the immediate area of the vertical IC. A weak or bad capacitor will heat up the IC, and create rings on the pins under the IC. Also check the solder grounds on any resistor and diode that are immediately near this IC. This will bring your TV back to full view. Thanks for asking and show a few hands of support!

Ghosting

I know exactly what your talking about. I've seen in many times. It' happens too in CRT monitors as well as LCD. It could ALTHOUGH be as simple as a bad cable catching interference. Most likely though, it sounds like a bad LCD driver board or video board. If you have warranty, call it in. Otherwise see if it lessens with adjustments of contrast and brightness up and down. This directly affect the driver board power and can improve it enough to be tolerable again.
