Having over heating problems with my 2000 taurus it does it most with def. or air cond. on full blast did find small leak at water pump where it bolts to block. replaced both cooling fansand, the thermostat has been replaced noticed the last time it got hot had def. on max it started to boil over(steaming) opened hood to check out and as soon as i did that both fans kicked on and it cooled down . is it possible that the sending unit that tells the fans when to kick on is bad or what?????any ideas???? 0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000

No!!!!...Yes!!!
No, the sending unit is working right.
Ideas? Yes, I think the problem is the water pump. Don't drive it overheated till you get a new water pump or have it inspected. You say it's a small leak where it bolts to block, but maybe it's the "weep hole" on bottom of pump leaking, meaning the internal seals on the pump have failed. If so, it won't be a small leak, it will leak all the time engine is running. A lot may be swept away by air, or by evaporating. Check it out. That's a likely cause of overheating.

Testimonial: "no!!!! not weep hole, and leak is at gasket very small leak been under car and checked...any more ideas???tks,. "

You need to replace the gasket between the pump and engine block to stop the water leak/coolant. Losing coolant will cause the engine to overheat.

Yeah, do like Chris said above. If problem persists, either do a compression test, or have the coolant tested for exhaust gases. I think I'd do that anyway (coolant tested). Well, good luck. And merry Christmas.

Overheating 2000 chevy metro. no leaks, coolant is full.

Check out water pump for proper circulation of coolant. Radiator good? To avoid overheating use your heater full blast with open windows.

We were told by Canadian Tire that the block heater is leaking.. we are confused if we should change the block heater or block core? when we had the water pump replaced we had heat for 20 minutes once all...

You block heater is a heater that should be screwed into the engine block.
Yes, it can leak.
You might need a new one, or you might need only to replace the gasket on the old one.
I'm in Florida, and I can't quite see the gasket from here!
Whenever you remove the block heater, or even when it leaks, you will get air into your cooling system, and then the heater will not work well, if at all.
Once you get the leaking block heater fixed, you will need to "bleed" the cooling system of that air.
How you do that is to run the engine at a medium speed with the car heater turned on full blast, and watch the coolant level in the radiator.
Be sure to keep the radiator full of coolant, and the water pump should pump the air out in about 5 minutes.
Be blessed.,

2000 taures se loosing coolent and running hot

Where is it losing the coolant from? If it is from a hose replace them. If it is from the radiator, replace it! If it is coming out of the top of the radiator overflow reservoir then it could be either the thermostat not opening when it should or a water pump not circulating the water as it should.

After replacing timing chain in 89 toyota 22-re my heater hasn't blown very hot air. I've changed thermostat and flushed coolant lines. I used to have an awesome heater but now when I turn blower full...

yes a bad water pump will cause it not to circulate the coolant through the heater core, find your coolant leak 1st is it leaking into the cab on the passenger side of your truck? thats another sign of a bad heater core also.make sure that you don't have an air pocket in your cooling system.it has to be full for the heat to work properly.thank you for choosing fixya.com

I have a 2002 Taurus 3.0 v6 single I have smoke that is rolling out from the hood when driving I looked at the water pump it seems to be leaking at the water pump where it goes into the head on the motor...

It sounds like you have either a leaking water pump or hose near the water pump. Sometimes you can take a small mirror and a light and follow the trail of coolant back up to the source [worth a try anyway] Most water pumps will leak from a small weep hole that is located behind the pulley and it can be hard to see this. Be careful not to overheat the engine as that can cause cylinder head damage, or worse, if it gets hot enough and can make a small problem much bigger and more expensive. Hope this helps!

2000 Ford Taurus Antifreeze boiling over

hi, the problem you are having is down to one of a couple of problems, now as you state the air blows cold then this points towards the thermostat not opening so this then dont pump the coolant round the engine resulting in the top half of the being hot and the bottom half cold so this is why you only get cold air.

so the first thing you should do is get the thermostat changed.

you also need to bare in mind that the problem could be a damaged water pump this does happen from time to time so check for any signs of water leak where the water pump is by the timing belt, if their is no signs of leak then the thermostat is the likely cause.

you also need to think that as the engine has over heated this could have caused the head gasket to fail so this will need looking at to if after changing the thermostat you have the same over heating problem.

so replace the thermostat as this has clearly gone and then when you re-fill the coolant make sure any bleed screws are undone if you have any on your coolant system usually located in one of the top hoses running around the engine, (not all coolant systems have one as many are self bleeding so dont worry if you dont see any bleed screws) now when you start filling the coolant up make sure you only trickle the coolant in to prevent any air lock building up in the system.

if you are unsure what you are doing then please leave this to someone who has some idea of the kind of work involved in this type of repair

Are there any water pump bolts behind the timing belt cover, on a 1999 vw Jetta 2.0 4cyl engine with air cond. and do i have to take the top and bottom covers all the way off the engine. Thanks for the...

Yes,but only if you want to remove the complete water pump including the thermostat housing. If you only want to replace the water pump(front section only) the part that leaks water from the small hole in the housing behind the pulley you only have to remove the 10mm bolts running in a circle!!

Water pump

WATER PUMP Removal Disconnect negative battery cable. Drain cooling system. Loosen water pump pulley bolts. Remove accessory drive belts. 1. Remove automatic tensioner. Disconnect coolant hoses from water pump. Remove retaining bolts, water pump and gasket.
Installation To install, reverse removal procedure. Lightly oil all bolt and stud threads, except bolt requiring Thread Sealant, before installing. Apply Contact Adhesive on gasket and install on water pump. 1. Tighten bolts/nuts to specification. Refill cooling system. Check for leaks when finished.
