At the top of the alt coming out from the engine block is a slotted bracket with a locking adjusting bolt, loosen the small 12mm locking bolt and then loosen the 14mm 4-5in long bolt about 2in out then break free the lower mounting bolt and nut just enough to swing the alt forward (may need a rubber mallet or bar) then remove old belt and replace with OE v-groove belt, then revers steps to tighten belt-no more then half inch finger play when done(do not pry or force new belt onto pulleys)

SOURCE: replace alternator belt 97 mazda protege

Look in your engine compartment. Should be a little diagram there, either on the strut tower, the radiator support, or the underside of your hood. Let me know what you find out.

SOURCE: Replacing 2 belts on a 2000 Mazda Protege

I recommend that you go to any Auto Parts store and by a repair user manual for your 2000 Mazda Protege.  They have pictures and arrows and stuff that you will need to do the whole job.  The non-Mazda version will cost approximately $15.00.
Because of the tensioner that may come off when while you are doing these belt changes, it is too complicated to talk you through this.
But with the manual, I am confident you can change them.

SOURCE: Changing a 1991 Mazda Protege Serpentine Belt

You've got to loosen the mounting bolt first, which is located behind the pulley itself. Rotate the pulley until the large opening allows access to the bolt, then use a socket with a narrow head to turn the bolt, just until it starts to turn freely.
Then there are two locknuts on the adjuster; one right near the mounting bolt and one underneath towards the middle of the pump. Loosen both of those, and then *finally* you'll be able to turn the adjusting bolt that faces the front end of the car on the end of the adjuster arm. It's a long bolt; just keep turning that thing until the belt loosens enough to come off the pulley.
Best of luck!

Timing belt on 1996 mazda protege slips during startup

Hello, this to me sounds like your fan belt slipping (not timing belt). To adjust the fan belt you need to undo your bolt on the alternator, pull it tight onto the fan belt and while holding it tight do the bolt back up tightly. this will stop yoour fan belt from slipping. I hope this helps.

Which bolts on the altenator and power steering pump need to be loosened to release the belts on a 2003 Mazda Protege?

I don`t know that there is a bolt to loosen the belt tension. There should be a automatic tensioner that you pull back and hold to remove the belt.
