MTD uses many, many, many different belts. You will need the model and serial number located under the seat. Usually starts with 13A. Any MTD dealer can find the proper belt for you with those numbers. I definitely recommend the use of proper MTD belts. Automotive belts have a different V shape and will fail prematurely.

get your model number from under the seat. go to partstree.com, click on the MTD tab, enter your model number and find out for yourself... we can't help because you didn't give us your model number...

it will be near the rear of all the pulleys probably just above top of pulleys look for a simple hole where it hooks usually a 1 inch piece of stock

Please post your model number from under seat so I can look up the deck. There is several versions of the AYP spindles used the Craftsman mowers.

Take your make and model number (located under seat) to your local lawn mower repair parts shop and they should be able to get you the appropriate belt.

The best thing you can do is get the model # (probably under the seat of the machine) and go online to www.m-and-d.com and type in the model # and they'll give you the correct belt for your machine (from there you can probably buy locally).

The gear assembly attached to the motor is stripped/broken. The least expensive solution is to go the junk yard and buy a motorized seat for your model. If you go the dealer for the motor assembly it is sold as a complete assembly with the bottom seat frame. Cost is over $300 . Once you've replaced/repaired the seat, I'd recommend that you do not raise or lower the seat while sitting on it. I had to replace mine twice.
