Hitachi 55fx20b Hi, I own the Hitachi 55FX20B Rear Projection TV, manufactured Sept. 1996. The picture became fuzzy (like colors separating) and the TV turn off by itself. When I pushed the power button to turn it back on, the red power light blinked and there was no sound and no picture. I pushed the power button to turn off the blinking light, unplugged the TV and the cable television cable from the set and waited 3 hours before turning it back on, but still did not receive sound or picture. A repair person on craigslist said the issue has to do with the convergence circuit and power supply, both have to be repaired followed by an alignment. The cost ranges from $200-300. Does this sound like the case? Is it easy to fix if I did it myself (I'm not very mechanical and don't want to get electrocuted- I heard that even unplugged, the T.V. holds a charge). Thank you for your time. -Douglas ([email protected])

My hitachi 55fx20b has a shift in color. red, blue and green does not project at the same spot. what can be the problem?

It sounds like what is called a "convergence" problem; 3d looking with colors out of place etc.

Most of these sets use two of the STK-392-150 chips for this (see photo) and you can look inside to see which are in your set.

A pair of the chips on EBAY sells for about 13 dollars and the only other parts usually involved may be a resistor damaged when the chips failed----this is the exception rather than the norm.

If you or someone you know can solder, etc I can tell you the best way to get at the parts and everything you will need to do the repair; for me----I have repaired over 1,000 sets with this kind of problem.

I am attaching photo of typical convergence problem and what one of the STK chips looks like (chip is 2 1/2 wide/ 1 1/2 tall with 18 pins).

If the photos and this information told you something you did not know rate this solution as very helpful as I do this here for free.

My hitachi tv keep turning off after 5 minuted of

I just got done putting my panasonic 50 projection back together. There is a thermal cut off relay on top of your bulb box, can normally be seen after removing the back of the tv. With the tv unplugged make sure the area around this relay is clean of dust. If the simple fix dosn't work make sure your cooling fan is coming on with the tv.

My Television Turns on, but there is no sound or picture, Is there a Resent Button?

There isn't any reset button. All you have to do is to take out the power source. Anyway, double check the wires... are you sure all are well connected?
