Attention light flashing- says replace black cartridge

Have replaced black cartridge and attention light still flashes. The only way to get it to print is to open the top cover and close it. The printer then checks itself and retrieves data, then prints. Have to open the top plate every time to print.

Same problem except opening and closing top cover has no effect. The message implies that this is a color printer which it is not. The error message is not listed anywhere for this printer. HP provides no help.

Try reset the printer. Turn off powerswitch, press gobutton, turn on powerswitch while pressing gobutton. hold approx 15sec and release the button. The printer will reboot. Clean the cartridge contacts and HV pins in printer.

I was printing several pages & it just stopped working. the ink button & on button flash. Changed the ink cartridges but still get the same blinking with no printing. Turned both the computer...

Press the Ink Cartridge Replacement button and check the flash pattern of the control panel lights:
ERROR and POWER lights flash at the same speed = replace black cartridge
ERROR light flashes twice as fast as the POWER light = replace color cartridge

How do i get the cartridge out

Press the fontb1.gif maintenance button. The print head moves to the black or color ink cartridge replacement position, the fontp.gif power light begins to flash, and the fontb1.gif error light begins to flash or remains on. When both cartridges are out of ink, the print head moves to the black ink cartridge replacement position first. After replacing the black cartridge, press the fontb1.gif maintenance button again to switch to the color cartridge replacement position.

Flashing light indicators for replacing ink cartridges.

If the light is flashing no matter the speed, remove the cartridge and inspect it. If it is low you may still be able to print some more, but if it's small ink well is empty you will not be able to print even in black only until you replace the cartridge. Hope this helps.

Attention Light Flashing

Unfortunately, HP didn't make this indicator very descriptive. Their product specification page for this printer states that the blinking Attention light, "indicates that the printer media input trays are empty, the print cartridge door is open, the print cartridge is missing, or other errors".

You've already changed the print cartridge and the light is still blinking, so you should take a look at the other conditions described such as an empty paper tray, open door, and so forth. You also will want to look for a paper jam or carriage jam. These are two very common errors that will result in a blinking Attention light.

HP.com does provide a web page that describes a specific problem associated with a blinking Attention light:
