I would not recommend you opening and cleaning the unit without training. You could cause a lot of damage if you do it improperly causing you money and a lot of headaches. Call an authorized Canon/Oce technician for parts and service.
If you're printing on photo paper, make sure you are printing on the correct side. Most photo paper has only one side to print on, the other side is a non-porous backing, and ink will sit on the surface until it dries (15 - 30 minutes, depending on temperature and humidity). And it won't look good even when it dries.
If you're printing on the correct side, try a different brand/type of photo paper.
What are you using as a interface between your computer and monitor? It sounds like you may be using a digital analog converter. Example would be a 15 pin dsub VGA to DVI adapter or vise/versa. If your using a purely digital interface like Display Port, DVI, or HDMI then you have a bad controller in your monitor. Try to do warranty claim if this is the case.
The cause of this is a faulty toner cartridge. What happened was some toner spilled out of the cartridge and down into your printer. Take the toner cartridge out and with a damp paper towel just goto town and wipe everything down.
Replace the toner cartridge, and in about 20 pages it should clear up.
It is fairly easy to do yourself. A new screen runs about 50 dollars on ebay. They usually come with fairly good instructions and the screwdriver you need to do it.
I have a brother LC51 and when I try to fax, it rings but once the receiving fax picks up, I get a busy signal. Also, it will not receive faxes. Any Ideas. Thank You in advance for any suggestion.
