Will windows 7 show ink levels of the hp printer?

My documents are printing, but part will be normal and part will be too light to read. I'm assuming maybe one of the ink cartridges is getting low. I used to be able to check ink levels on windows vista, but now on windows 7 cannot find it anywhere. Do I just have to guess which cartige is low or if that is the problem?

SOURCE: Cartridge not detected

Change ink! It has a sensor that stops operation to ensure ink lines remain with ink in them
There should always be ink left in cartridge otherwise the printer would suck in air and air would turn in to bubbles in the ink line which become blank areas on your printing.

Maybe you can try reinstalling the driver or if the cartridge was bought from 3rd party, you might want to buy one directly from the manufacturer.
Good Luck.

Is it possible to check ink levels on an HP C4345 All-In-One Printer/Fax. I use Windows 7. Have gone into Properties, etc w/no luck. Thank you.

First, I would try printing a document, and a window should pop up in the lower right corner. If not, make sure that you have all the necessary drivers for the printer installed, as that is the only way to check your ink levels with the HP C4345 All-in-One Printer. In my experience, you must use new HP printer cartridges (rather than ink refills) to have an accurate reading of the remaining ink.

How can i check which ink are out

Your printer should have come with a disk. This disk would have installed the necessary program that runs printing jobs, as well as keeps track of the ink level. Locate this program on your computer (may be under All Programs, Accessories under the Start Menu).
If not, Go into the Control Panel: (see below)
carsandcomps_3.jpg

Above, you see "Hardware and Sound"; and below that shows "View Devices and Printers. Click on this. It will then bring you into the below dialogue box, of which shows any and all printers currently installed and which are being used. (see below)

carsandcomps_4.jpg

Once you have located your printer here - (name etc). Go into your Start Menu: In the Search Box at the bottom type "programs"; look for the words "show which programs are installed on your computer", should be the fourth in the list. Below is what the list will look like. Find your printer here to ensure it's installed.

carsandcomps_5.jpg

Once you have determined it's installed, you need to locate the printer program in your file system. Once you retrieve this, click it to open it. The program should allow you to view the ink levels. With most printers, when ink is low it will automatically open a dialogue box showing the ink levels for each cartridge. If you're printer is not equipped with this feature, then the only way to know if any need changed is when printing a document, and any color is not present.
I apologize for such a long response, as I wanted you to know how to access these files. If you are printing, and all colors appear to be present, without fading, or "blotchy" spots, then your cartridges are still good. You should be able to do a print test (calibration or alignment test) to determine this as well.
Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Since changing from Vista to Windows-7, my HP D5460 printer no longer shows the 'Ink Levels' graphic. The only way I know if the ink is low is when it prints in strange colours, then I have to 'guess'...

This could be happening if Windows 7 is trying to use Windows Vista drivers and driver package for printing activities. You should uninstall the current drivers and its full package. For more details on uninstalling, visit the link below:

Once done, download & install the updated drivers and software for Windows 7 from the link below:

When we do a fax test, we get clear print; when we try to print documents nothing appears, altho it goes thru all the right sound motions

Sounds like your colour cartridge is empty. Fax test will pull from black only but documents sometimes use a combination of colours in order to print out black. I suggest checking your ink levels - instructions for windows;

Check ink levels
NOTE: If you have installed a refilled or remanufactured print cartridge, or a cartridge that has been used in another printer, the ink level indicator will be inaccurate or unavailable.
  1. Open the Printer Toolbox . There are two ways to do this:
    • Open HP Director , select the Settings menu, then the Print Settings submenu, and finally the Printer Toolbox .
    • Open Printers and Faxes in the Windows Control Panel , then right-click your printer icon and choose Properties . Click Printing Preferences . Click the Services tab, then the Service This Device icon.
  2. The Printer Toolbox opens. Click the Estimated Ink Level tab. A cartridge may be running out of ink even if the graphic shows ink remaining (see the note at the start of this section). Lines or streaks always appear in printouts when the cartridges begin to run out of ink. Replace print cartridges that are out of ink or low Check ink levels

After installing re-filled ink cartridges, both color and back & white, the printer message that shows ink level still shows low level ink? How do we resolve?

Hello,

Try this procedure:
1. Open printer lid so cartridges move to center of carriage.
2. Lift clamp and remove black or color cartridge from the holder.
3. Place cartridge on table with copper contact strip facing you.
4. Carefully place a strip of clear plastic tape over the four contacts on the upper left corner of the cartridge.
5. Reinstall cartridge in printer and close lid. Wait until cartridge returns to parking position.
6. Open lid and remove cartridge again. Remove tape from left side and place tape over four contacts at upper right corner of cartridge.
7. Reinstall cartridge in printer and close lid. Wait until cartridge returns to parking position again.
8. Open lid again, remove cartridge, remove tape.
9. Reinstall cartridge and close lid.
Printer will now recalibrate. Once the process is complete the ink level meter should be reading full again.

I hope this helps, if so please rate our solution.
