Ive had my player do this 3 times i tried all kinds of stuff the first 2 times that at the end I had no idea what made it work. I finally figured it out on the third time.... Get a small needle and hit reset it will turn on the player. then just plug it back into your computer and it will start charging =)

You have to install the software for the mp3 player BEFORE connecting the mp3 player to the computer, or else Windows XP will override the native drivers. That particular Nextar is not compatible with Windows Vista, so you may have a problem if you have a newer computer.

Have you tried to reset? The reset button is right by the lock switch. It's small so use a pin or something small like that.

Right click on "MY computer" Hit properties. Click on the hardware tab. Click on Device manager. Search for the MTP device. It will have an yellow exclamation point on it. ( this means that there is something wrong with the driver.) Double click on the MTP device. A window will pop up which will prompt you to reinstall the driver. Reinstall the driver, It will take like 2 minutes or so. And then you will notice that the computer now recognizes it!!!!!!
I hope this helps y'all..
SOURCE: My sansa fuze i plug it in to the computer and it
Hello,
When the Fuze can be switched on:
1. slide the power on switch shortly upwards to put the player on
2. hold the power on switch upwards for 15-20 seconds
3. release the power switch
Next try to switch the player on and see if it reacts normally.
Switch the player off again and try charging again, making connection to a computer.
When charging still doesn't start, disconnect the player from the computer:
4. slide the power switch downwards into the lock position,
forcing MSC mode
5. connect the player to the computer for charging in MSC mode
for a about 3 hours.
6. while charging use the Sansa Firmware Updater to check for
updates. When not installed already download the Sansa Updater
and run this execute file.
Updates for the player can only be performed in MSC mode.
The updater only works when you're logged in to the computer having administrator's rights and running Windows operating system.
MSC mode means that the computer sees the player as a removable disk. When in MSC mode, always disconnect through the icon "safely remove hardware" in the right corner below of the computer screen.
When the display of the player doesn't react at all after the reset and charging procedure, the battery of the player can:
a. be too far empty or
b. have a fast power loss.
The load of the power supply from the USB ports might be to weak to get the player charged.
When point a. is the case, an extra power adapter connected to a wall socket, providing more power, could help.
When the battery has had many loads it can be at its end of duty cycle. Then battery replacement will be required.
