This model does not have map coverage of Canada. This model was designed for us only in the US. The models in that series with Canada maps were the RoadMate 1212, 1412, and 1430.

there is a fuse in the tip of the plug that goes into the socket. unscrew the end of the plug to gain access to the fuse.

if you are looking for map updates I have not been successful in transferring data from one unit to another. That requires their "process" experimentation on bypassing their updates on a older roadmate 700 series caused alot of pain.

If you have a unit more than 3 years old don't waste money on updates the new roadmate 1430 or 1470 run about $150 and the 1 touch navigation is much better than the older software. There have also been MAJOR improvements in the GPS receiver and sensitivity is far superior to those units built even just two years ago.

As for connecting it to the computer, you'll need the usb cable that came with it. Then you'll want to do this:
Follow these steps to connect your Magellan RoadMate to your PC.

1. Turn ON your Magellan RoadMate.
2. Touch "Map" to display the map screen.
3. Connect your GPS to your PC using the USB cable.

make sure green light is on if using the car charger and let it plugged in for awhile, then hold the power button (up to ten seconds) until it starts..

if you tried charging it with both house charger and car charger and tried to start it like i explain and it still will not start, its most likely a bad power port which is very common with this model and many other magellan models.

assuming your using a windows xp or 2000 os, try another cable if you have one..turn the gps off, plug in the usb cord and restart the gps. if that fails, if the cable is connected to a port on the front of the computer,move the usb cable to a rear port on the computer and try the previous way i just explained.

if those fail, disconnect all usb devises connected to the pc and restart the computer and try again. (always use a rear port on the pc if you can)

try a hard reset first using a paper clip, innsert it in the little pin hole on the side to reset the unit. if that fails, get the 3.12 update off the magellan site..you must register the unit with magellan before you can download the update.

replace the or recharge the battery to capacity and see if that helps usually low battery, incorrecty baud rate or port out cause no satellite connection, unless you are under a thick concrete or tin roof. take it outside and show it some sky and see if that help
