If it's a regular lcd and not a Lycos, it doesn't have an optical block like and DLP. Sony lcd's are notorious for bad lcd panels. If it is a dlp, Sony has had lawsuits against them regarding their light engine. If your tv was manufactured within a certain year you can get it repaired for free. Contact Sony.

If you look it up you will find that it is a Sony LCD, with a bad optical block, which contains the LCD panels. I was trying to keep it simple, no need to get to technical. Its an LCD optical block problem. (its LCOS, not lycos)

Thanks for taking your time to help people out. Sony needs to help all the people that bought the LCD projection and the LCD flat tvs, which also have had panel problems.

Sony model kdf-e42a10 one-third of both right and left sides of screen is light yellow shade. middle one-third of screen is good.

The filter is probably covered with dust at the sides. In an LCD projection tv the light has to pass through the filter(prism) before it displays on the screen. If its dirty then you will have a darker than usual image. Getting it cleaned should resolve the issue.

Hello sailingnut,
You have a bad lite-engine. The only way to fix this is to replace the engine. This engine is very expensive. Not only is it expensive, it will take a experienced service tech to install it.

Sorry for the bad news buddy
