I found this solution in Yahoo Answers. go into the Setup Menu and find "Initialize". Select Initialize to reset the camera adjustments. Then try using the camera again.

You have a bad lens, it prob. also says turn off and on again.

SOURCE: SONY DSC-W300 macro will not turn on

Looks camera requires RESET (Initialize) by following procedure.. Press HOME >> Settings >> Main Settings 1 >> Initialize >> OK and and enable Macro.

I have a Sony W120 and had the same macro problem, tried all the "solutions" mentioned here without result. So I pressed the "Home" button, went to "Settings" (last menu item at right), then "Main Settings", and used the "Initialize" functio. Problem solved !

You mean you can't turn the macro mode on? Most likely there are some settings set that won't let you turn macro on. Do an initialization (reset) from the SETUP menu.

With autofocus digital cameras, blurred photos are almost always a result of camera shake. You need to hold the camera still even after pressing the button, as there is often a short delay before the shutter fires.

Many digital cameras have a two-stage shutter press- first pressure causes the camera to focus, then the follow through pressure takes the picture. If you are rushing this, you may get unfocussed shots.

Finally, make sure that you have not left the camera in Macro mode. This is a special extreme close-up mode offered by some cameras, and it does not allow autofocus on objects at normal distances.

It keeps saying my sony cyber-shot DSC-H3 macro is invalid. what do i need to do to get it working again?

Press the "Home" button, go to "Settings" (last menu item at right), then "Main Settings", and use the "Initialize" button.

And also;
Macro is not available in landscape mode, twilight mode or fireworks mode, if you try to use macro in any of those modes it will say invalid macro.

I have a sony cyber-shot dsc-w30 and the setting dial is loose just a tap and it switches functions... Can i fix this?

Setting dial has internal carbon coating that seems worn out so it can not be fixed by cleaning etc.
Replace setting dial as it calls Control Switch Block and part number is as follows:
147958411... CONTROL SW BLOCK (SW110T) (W30)
Available with Part Store for $25 and handy person can replace it easily by taking apart camera carefully.
