Hello... It appears that it's not an uncommon problem. One workaround would be to use the "Scaner and Camera Wizard" that comes with Windows. You can find it in XP in the start menu-accesories. In win7 you press the start button and type scanner, you will have a list of programs, documents and other files related to the scanner, use the first one it finds. The only draw back is that you won't be able to use some functions, can't tell you which as i don't have the device. What windows version are you using?

    From thehttp://usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consum... page instal:
    1st - 5000fvst8021a_xpen.exe
    2nd - WIAdriver5000F.EXE
    3d - deldrvwin1250ejf.exe
    and last cstbwin4136en.exe
Instal with device unpluged and only plug it in if the wizard asks to. Restart after each og the four instalations
After you try that please let me know if it's the same error or another.
    Good luck

I downloaded the drivers to my vista computer but keep getting an "unable to select Twain Source error".

Hi,

The drivers for your Canon CanoScan 4200F Flatbed Scanner available are for Windows 7 64bit, Windows Vista 64bit, Windows ME and Windows 98. Is your Windows Vista a 64bit version? You might want to upgrade your Windows Vista from 32bit to 64bit. Always remember, the softwares and drivers are limited to manufacturer's releases.

I hope this works for you. Kindly reply for further assistance. Good Luck!

When i try to scan i get this message: unable to open TWAIN source Please check connection then re-start Toolbox the connections are tight

Driver mismatch - the driver of the scanner has forgotten the location of the TWAIN driver because another software has been using it lately. Follow this

Can not scan. Get message "Unable to scan. Make sure there is enough space on target disk". Changed default temporary disk location, have plenty of disk space.

Had this before and after a day of playing about with cleaning out the windows temp folders, I simply uninstalled all the driver and toolbox software, downloaded the latest version from Canon's site and reinstalled it. After doing a bit of research, found out it was caused by a windows update conflicting with the drivers

Using XP Pro, with correct driver. Error is "Unable to Select Twain Source. Edited Path to include: %SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem; C:\WINDOWS\twain...

Hi,

You will need to install the twain driver for the scanner.
Click on the link below and download the driver. Once its downloaded execute the .exe file. you will then get a small box pop up with "Unzip" on the right hand side. Look at the path of the unzipped file on the left hand side and save it to your desktop. For example C:\users\yourname\desktop instead of C:\Users\yourname\AppData\Local\Temp. The file extracts quite fast so go to the desktop and run the SETUPSG.EXE file. When its installed you should be able to use the scanner.

Error message cannot find twain source and toolbox

Have you tried deleting the scanner from add/remove hardware under control panel? If not, try disconnecting it from the computer, then try deleting it, then retry the install one more time.

Unable to select TWAIN source

tried uninstallin and installin canon scanner drivers..nothing works..still seeing unable to select twian source..

so i tried an alternative..here we go..
on vista 64 os/vista any version..click Start>All programs>Windows fax and scan

next click new scan on top and that got me going.

some say there are issues with the way usb talks to old scanners with new operating systems like mine (vista 64). hope it helps until you find the actual cure.

Your post for CanoScan LiDE 25

Hi there, yes I did everything per your instructions, Toolbox is installed and it still says, "release the lock switch, detach I/F cable and reconnect. Scanner driver will be closed" and then after clicking on that it says "Unable to open TWAIN source. Please check connection then restart toolbox" I have been to the Canon site and downloaded driver sites and it says everything is working. but when I go to scan it comes up with the boxes I said before. Quite lost at the moment? Thanks Maureen. PS I have unstalled and reinstalled
