SOURCE: Dell Inspiron 1526 cannot communicate with battery

The diagnostic Error is a False positive you can ignore the diag error as the LCD is functional. If the battery is not recognized in the BIOS or you get an warning the AC adapter is not recognized, then you may have either a damaged AC adapter sensing pin (Fine wire in middle of ac adapter connection to Laptop) or a problem with the charging unit on the motherboard.

If the sensing pin is damaged or the ac adpater is not sending the right signal to the system, the battery charger will not work. SO if you have another Dell D series AC adapter, you can try it 1st. If the battery is 18 mos to 2 years old, you might see if it is IDs in BIOS and if it indicates battery state. Also the battery should have a test button and 5 LEDs on it. If the 1st 3rd and 5th LED flash the battery is bad. ANy any come on solid, then it is a % of charge, each LED = 20%

If you end up replacing hardware, then it will most likely be in this order:

AC Adapter, Battery, Motherboard

Check out they have a wide variety of inverters and backlight tubes for LCD panels and laptops. I'd change out the tubes at the same time you replace the inverter. The cost is minimal, and will increase the likelihood that you'll be successful

Yep, basically what it means is the ic on the board is shot. Order a new board. Or a complete lcd as it comes with the driver , The choice is yours and its up to you..!!

You can try connecting an external monitor to see if you get a display on the external monitor. If so then you have a problem with Inspiron LCD screen or video circuit on the motherboard. Here is a link to the setup guide which has the location of external VGA connector on the back view:

My Dell Inspiron 1420 screen goes black

If your laptop appears to boot up and the hard disk LED flashes, then the problem is probably a back light fault. This can be a faulty inverter or a faulty CCFL lamp. Please click on this link and follow my instructions to identify the fault and possible fix :-

Vertial yellow line appeared on screen of my inspiron 1420

Try connecting an external monitor to the 15 pin VGA plug located on the right side. You may have to initiate the external monitor by holding down the Function left of the Space bar and depressing the associated key, (it should have a little picture of a monitor).
If the display is fine on the external monitor then you have a bad LCD display. If you still get the yellow line on the external monitor your motherboard (system board) needs to be replaced.

Multiple vertical screens at startup (dell inspiron 4100)

Try connecting an external monitor to the laptop (15 pin VGA connector). If the display appears normal on the external monitor then you have an issue with your laptop's LCD display. If the external monitor also has vertical screens then your video circuit on the laptop has a problem.

I have one whitw and blue line on display of my dell inspiron 1520

Please try attaching an external Monitor to your notebook and if the white line still appears then there is something wrong with your display adapter integrated on your notebook's motherboard if not then its your LCD display. Check your Service Tag in the support and see if your warranty still active so you can have either of the 2 replace.

My dell inspiron 1420 wont lighten up the screen is black though i can see my desktop

Likely the backlight but those are quite hard to replace. I would try the inverter board 1st as they are cheap and often the problem. You should look 1st at the inverter board to see if there are any cracked chips. Otherwise I would suggest a new/used LCD. BTW you can narrow down the issue by unplugging the cable from the MB to the LCD and or inverter board and try to boot with an external monitor connected. This rules out the issue being on the MB

Dell 1520 , on start up screen goes black.... top right hand corner of pc is hot. backlight ?invertor?has the screen got a built in ivertor?? then maybe new screen??? help please....

The top right corner of your laptop is where the CPU and heatsink/ fan is located. If you can hook up an external monitor to your laptop, you can toggle to it with the function key and the lcd/CRT key. If you get a good display, then you have a bad inverter or possibly the LCD, but you can't do too much more troubleshooting,

My screen on my Dell Inspiron Notebook went black. But I can barely see on the screen that the computer ran a problem check and said my computer was having a problem starting.

The invertor lamp has gone bad, so you would need to replace the LCD screen. there is nothing else you can do. try to connect an external monitor adn then press Fn + F8 to switch the video to the external monitor. if the image on the external monitor is fine then its the lcd. if the external monitor has the same image then motherboard problem. you can also try Fn + Up arrow key to increase the brightness.

My Dell Inspiron 140 have no imags. Power leds is on but no pic on the screen. Please Help.. Thank You,

try plugging it into an external monitor you may need the latest drivers for your video card for this to work if you get no video still then it could be your video card another thing to check is to see if you shine a light at an angle down the laptop screen if you see a faint picture it could be your ccfl's need replaced if it is still black but works on the external monitor then it could be the inverter hope this helps

Black LCD Monitor Dell Inspiron 8600

Since the external monitor displays and dim image on the laptop's LCD screen then the fault is the LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.
