My RCLP50A Reddy Heater will not stay on after I stop pushing the gas valve blue button

The instructions tell me to hold valve button for 30 seconds. But even if I hold it for over a minute it will not keep running after I let the gas valve button go.

I have a Reddy heater 30-55,000 btu.. When lighting it I press in the initer for the recomended time but after I release it the flame goes out.. Can you tell me why?.

It seems as if you are not holding the igniter long enough after it fires, have you tried holding the igniter down for a few seconds more to allow the safety cut out to warm up, (Similar to the gas heaters, when ignited keep the flame going for the thermal coupling to heat up), If you do this and it still goes out the safety valve is faulty, but try holding it in longer before messing about with the coupling.

The heater doesn't ignite.. I push and hold the button.. but doesn't ignite

If you mean it won't stay running after the unit actually starts...meaning as soon as you release the red button it shuts off then you would need to clean the end of the thermocouple that screws into the gas valve....not the end that goes into the flame.
Remove the small nut and clean the end with a small wire brush or scrape some metal off with a knife, then scrape some metal inside the valve where the end of the thermocouple seats.

But if you mean it will not start at all then you need to make sure gas in getting through the valve.

My 55,000 btu reddy heater it turns on and runs and pilot light turns on but it's like it doesn't ignite and turns off.

These heaters have a thermal control that requires the unit to get to a preset temperature, before the gas flow valve will stay in and let the heater run steadily.

When you are first starting the heater, it has to have the fan plugged in and you have to hold in the gas valve, and then hit the electronic spark ignitor until the unit lights.

Keep holding the gas valve in for a good 45-60 seconds (or longer) until it will stay in and remain on. Sometimes in really cold weather, these heaters will peroiodically shut off and will have to be relit.

The auto valve used on these gas heaters is designed to shut off the gas, should the flame go out or get blown out,or for any reason. It's a safety feature that can't be overridden nor would you wan to.

If the heater won't stay lit following the proper method, you'll have to remove and clean out the gas inlet/orifice, as it might have a partial obstruction in it. You may have replace the regulator if the orifice is fine, as that's about all there is with these types of heaters.

Hope you find this Very Helpful and best regards!

Heater will not stay lite

Sounds as though your heater is a bit different than mune - I havwe no gas supply button, at least I don't think so. I just replaced my nozzle however at the recommedation of a recent contact to this site. It worked. The replacement packaging suggests annual replacement, so I think I was due - after ~12 years!

Wont stay lit

Yep, sounds like you got it. Unscrew the fitting at the gas valve and take the thermocouple to a reputable Propane Gas supplier. They can match it up for you or you can order one off the internet.

Reddy heater rlp 100

Sounds like the thermocouple is not working or the flame is not hitting the thermocouple. It may take 30 seconds of flame or longer to keep it on. Check for a loose connection at the gas valve.

Either a 30# or 110# tank of propane will work. You might even get by for a short period of time using a gas grill tank, depending upon how cold it is outside.
